Was this ever working ???

Hello folks, on the 5th of November l purchased a supposedly fully working Laptop item # 281481276540 the item arrived well packed and secure via Aust.Post on the 18th. Item was coming Road Transport from Brisbane, Qld.

I purchased this particular Laptop as l had all the missing parts to make it workable. The Up Arrow Button appears to be fully reset into the keyboard, aligned to the two blank keys. I cannot enter/set functions in the Bios Settings. The Page Up & Page Dn keys do not allow you to access  them in Bios.  Therefore l have no way of setting up a Hard Disk Drive to Boot To, set, arrange order, etc.

Unit will not even Format any HDD, even when it is recognized by the Laptop. I cannot win anywhere.

Seller refuses to accept Returns, even though it was listed in the Used category, meaning it must be fully operational. I was drawn to this Laptop by the constant mentioning by the Seller, of being fully working. I have opened an Item Not As Described claim today through PayPal.  PayPal told me in an email today, that if there is no reply, or a reply that is not to my liking, by the 26th Nov. they will intervene for me. Is there anything that l need to do, or have not covered here ?  Any thoughts appreciated.

Was this ever working ???

Actually, I agree you have a case for not as described.  The listing specifically states:

"Used: Dell D530 series Laptop with Missing Power Supply, Harddrive and Caddy, This Laptop has been used previously. The item has some signs of cosmetic wear, but are fully operational and turns on to the BIOS. Laptop in great Condition.

NO DAMAGE TO THE LAPTOP - THIS IS IN GREAT CONDITION

You can see better in the listing photos than your photo that the arrow keys are mashed down, so it is clear that the laptop was sent to you in a faulty condition.  I could only see this because I knew where to look, I don't think this is obvious, and could easily be dismissed as cosmetic damage, given how adament the seller is about the laptop's great condition.

That's good for you, if they try to say that you damaged the unit.  It was up to the seller to specify faults, rather than for you spot a potential problem.  The seller is very specific that the laptop has no damage!

If you had used ebay MBG, you might have had all postage paid/refunded, but through Paypal you will have to pay return postage unless Paypal gift you the cost, which they do sometimes.

If the seller does not reply to the dispute or you cannot reach a resolution you will have to escalate to a claim for paypal to intervene.

My worry is that you will not be able to return the item in the condition in which you received it as you have tried to repair it/get it working.

This is a requirement of getting a refund.

I agree with Lyndal. If the laptop turns on and reaches BIOS then it would be "As described" and if you have tinkered with it then sorry the lose is on your head.

Hi, Thank you and also to Lyndal for your reply, l would like to make clear that l have not interfered with this Laptop, taken parts out, or changed anything.  Two issues, one was that the up arrow key is firmly wedged in the down position on the keyboard, as in NO response when pushed, as there is no push to give.  Issue two, in Bios one cannot use the up arrow button, to navigate up on the keyboard, cannot set Bios Settings. Page Up key does not work from within Bios. HDD when inserted, and the Laptop recognizes it, Laptop refuses to Format HDD.  Have tried a number of HDD's and all tell the same story.

Question: Do l have to pay for the Return Postage with Tracking myself.  It was not sent to me with Tracking.  Would l be better to come to an agreement with the Seller on keeping the Laptop, and accepting a reduced Refund ?  To Return the item at my cost, plus the cost of Tracking starts to make this an expensive task. What are my options ?  Thanks.

Seller of item: 281481276540 Thank you for your reply. The point l am trying to make is the the Up Arrow key on the keyboard is well and truly in the down position, like wedged Down into the keyboard, you cannot use it. In the Bios, l need that key to be operational to set my settings, l cannot use the PgUp or PgDn keys as they do not work in the Bios screen, which is normal. Laptop sees any HDD put in, but unit refuses to Format any HDD. Now about your Refund Offer, which l must Decline, for the following reasons. I paid almost $25 for original postage, not complaining there. You WANT me to return this unit to you at my cost, another $25, plus the cost of Tracking, and you are only going to refund me $20. Well, l think not, so l spend almost $50, to get only $20 back. Having spoken to Paypal, l will follow their instructions. As l have the offer to upgrade to a Claim, l will leave this matter in the good hands of Paypal. Just so there is no misunderstanding, l clearly DECLINE YOUR REFUND OFFER. 7.40pm 20/1 - attic-case

I think you assume I was the seller...sorry to burst your bubble but no I am a buyer. The reason for my OP was the Original Listing said something like, turns on and gets to BIOS, missing HDD and caddy plus other things.. If the laptop does turn on and get to the BIOS screen then yes it is as described.

The description also states "Excellent Working condition" - if the keyboard is damaged and the IDE BUS is busted, then yeah, I'd say it's not as described.

I reckon the keyboard could be "worked around" with a USB attachment, but that's obviously a short-term workaround and an actual repair would cost more than the whole auction did.

If the IDE BUS is broken, then I'd call it beyond repair. But that might not be the case - can't really comment without knowing how you're trying to format your drives, and what happens when you make those attempts.

Sorry - what am I missing here ? If it was listed as fully working, why would you assume it needed parts to make it workable?

Open INAD if it is indeed faulty, sorry I am just a little confused by the conflicting info in the OP.

It's like buying a lamp that was listed as fully working, but lacking a bulb. You might buy that lamp simply thinking you can stick a globe in and be ready to go - but then you receive it to find that actually the power switch is broken, so adding the missing part won't help.

"Incomplete" vs "busted".
