They have over 100 negative feedback (which wasn't there when I ordered the product). A message on the feedback stated that there was a problem with the seller (a accident, I think), and the family cannot access their account. Yet, this account is still active, even though Paypal and ebay have had to refund a heap of money!! I hope to start the process to get a refund tomorrow. Why this account hasn't been suspended is very strange

The message left saying there was accident and the family cant access the account was NOT left by the family, It was left by another board member who assumes that what had happened. ( all good intentions apparently , rolls eyes)
In reality no one knows what has really happened yet. Its all assumptions on whether an accident has happened or he's been whisked off by aliens to join in some extra terestial shenanigans.
I have had the issue with the same seller, and its safe to say your item hasnt been sent. and its best to put in a claim.

As it has been pointed out on the related discussion, this is a public forum and you may find yourself excluded from the ability to purchase from some sellers as a result of your own assumptions in this matter.

Lyndal, I have learnt to ignore noobs, it usually takes them longer to see the error of their ways.
Perhaps I should be rolling my eyes. Never assume as they say. (I often know more than I let on)
We, as regular responders in the eBay answer centre and on the boards with years of experience have ways of checking accounts to determine likely scenarios. The feedback was left as it appeared with more than 90 % certainty the seller had met with unfortunate circumstances. (2 other cases spring to mind, one member was deceased, the other member was missing).
I have just had confirmation the seller we are referring to is indeed an elderly gentleman with a serious heart condition.

The extended Paypal claims window helps here, too...it gives the buyer time to see what is happening if items don't arrive promptly. In the early days 30 or 45 days was not enough particularly for overseas items. The trap for the new, then, was if you did not get proactive quickly you'd lose your money. So I understand the concern if items don't arrive and then a crop of negs flood in...but now there is time to be calm (unless the seller has actually been deregistered).
sorry to hear that the seller is unwell, Kopes.

I can add another one to the list. A friend who was a very active seller lost a small child in a terrible accident. Checking ebay was not very high on her priority list for quite some time.
Luckily this was a few years ago when we had ways of finding her buyers and contacting them. We sent messages explaining what had happened and that there may be some delays, but we would ensure they recieved their items or a refund. They where all very supportive and it was one occasion when the ebay community spirit was alive and well..
