I purchased an item last week and within an hour I received a tracking number and the notification that the item had been posted. However, days went past and there was no change in the tracking information on the Aust Post track page. Aust Post said it is likely that the seller got a tracking number online but has not actually posted the item, they said contact the seller.
So I contacted the seller yesterday afternoon and he said he just posted it that morning, yet still no tracking movement today. Has it been posted?
Obviously a tracking number is not good enough to signify posting, as you can just get one online now, apparently.
A system loop-hole?
Oh, and does anyone know if you have to wait, if you are a seller, to transfer money from paypal to their bank and then withdraw it from their bank? All this time delay seems perfect for a scam.

Dont take this the wrong way .. but I think if the system is setup to mark an item as posted .. when it hasnt .. just bcz a label has been printed (or actively marked) .. to avoid posible further interacion from customers .. is not good.
It is not to avoid interaction with customers, it's to actually communicate their order has progressed to a point where changes can not (easily) be made.
If I don't mark as shipped until I get back from the post office, and someone messages me in the mean time because it's not marked as shipped, asking to change their order, half the time they don't believe you and think you're just saying it's already been posted because you don't want to be accommodating.
And it's not just the expenses mentioned above that are involved - I've printed invoices and used packaging supplies by the time I mark as shipped - I'll snip an envelope open to add something else in no problems (if a request is made early enough), but discarding packaging, printing new invoices etc, is a waste of resources and money.
I've currently got a small pile of bubble mailers which were addressed, had postage stamps and a priority label applied etc, only to not be used because later changes to the order were made. At least I can still use those by just applying a printed label over the original one, but there are other times the packaging etc is just wasted.
I don't see anything wrong with trying to keep things running as smoothly and efficiently as possible (plus like I said, I mark as shipped the same day the mail is actually shipped, just about an hour or two before Aus Post actually has it).

ya but saying an item has been posted is not a progression it is a statement of fact .. or not
We live in a difficult world where sometimes telling the truth can lead to unfortunate circumstances .. you cant please everyone .. so we all make individual choices on how we live our lives.
However, my grip isnt with someone like you .. hmm.. is it a grip? lets just call it an annoyance .. you seem to bend over backwards for your customers and suffer bcz of that .. I thought I did concede that marking posted that day and then posting the same day I would consider well acceptable .. it is more when it goes on for multiple days unposted when you think it has been.
I guess I do get a bit twitchy on the subject of postage bcz in the past (b4 tracking revolution) things have not arrived and the seller looks at you and goes "oh yeah?" .. also tho I did have one time where over 2 weeks had passed and no item .. I contacted the seller and the "oh yeah?" started but they refunded my money .. then I think it was the next day or day after it showed up .. so I contacted the seller and returned their money.
nothing in life is be perfect .. we can only try to do our best

In one of your posts, you mentioned that you'd think ebay could manage to set things up so the message showed differently when a postage label was printed.
Now I am not 100% sure of this, but I don't think it is an ebay issue, I think it may be Australia Post.
The reason i say that is I quite regularly get photobooks posted to me. Nothing to do with ebay.
And I also buy from catch of the day and other online selling places.
In every case, i get this same message that a tracking number has been issued.
It wasn't till I came on this forum that I learnt that didn't mean it was at the post office and I came to look for the second notice, the one that says it has been lodged at the PO.
This knowledge came in really useful to me a while back as something didn't arrive. I forget what it was, but it wasn't an ebay purchase. In any case, I was able to contact the selling company with a screenshot to say they had generated a label but there had been no movement in 2 weeks, so would they be able to help me. I received another item within days. So I think what had happened was the parcel had somehow got lost in the system, not taken to the PO.

Same with the "Your ebay item sold!" notification - an email I (thankfully) generally receive multiple times a day, but pretty much everyone who has ever sold on eBay will tell you that particular statement of fact doesn't mean jack, lol. And I'm not trying to take your comments out of context or pull a 'what-aboutism', I think we are in agreement on most things, and my personal opinion is that - at the very least - you should not have had to contact the seller several days after the order was marked as shipped to find out what is going on.
I'm more speaking on a general level, and trying to highlight the point I make below, as in this case I prefer to speak in broader terms...

Not at all. What I am is understanding and willing to be flexible, within reason, and then just hopeful that my customers afford me the same courtesy.

I really don't understand why this was such a great issue for you, for as long as I can remember when a seller created a postage label or uploaded a tracking number, it has been the case that eBay will mark the item as "posted". I have always taken that into consideration and also realise that I won't know whether that item is on it's way until it gets scanned by AP.
Can I assume you are a younger person, hence your fascination with "textspeak" - sorry, but I find it a lazy way for people to communicate.......
