As a regular buyer of American products, I am being forced to look elsewhere for them. The ebay shipping program, which unboubtedly is easy for sellers, is prohibitively expensive for lower priced products. A small item is regularly charged at $50. This is more than double what I would charge for the same service, and Australia is The Most Expensive Postal Service in the World.
US sellers, if you want our business, wise up and post the item yourselves.

I know what you mean about the GSP being ridiculously expensive for overseas buyers like us in Australia. I wanted to purchase an American Girl doll from the U.S. and the difference between the seller posting via USPS and the GSP is $33.00 AUD. That is just not right. Last year I purchased two little girls dresses from the U.S. at the same time and the GPS would not allow the seller to combine postage so I cancelled the purchase. What a rip off.

Sellers are not obliged to use the GSP.
You can nicely ask your seller to 'opt out' of it and send USPS
It's in their settings to opt out

I recently contacted a U.S. seller regarding the high charge to post a single DVD via the Global Shipping Program. He said that was the price. No negotiation. I naturally refused to order from him.
Does the Global Shipping Programme add customs duty regardless of the value of the item? Our customs rarely collect duty for parcels under $1000. If the GSP still adds duty despite this, who pockets the duty? I bet the buyer doesn't get a refund for uncollected duty.
