ebay policies now allow sellers to add to the postage price stated on sale and the seller does not have to inform you until it is time to pay. best to check with seller that postage price will stay as advised in advert before bidding. do not trust ebay they will not help nor care that you have been ripped off

Read my thread about this exact issue. Ebay are USELESS. I am in the process of appealing an unpaid item strike after having this happen to me. I REFUSED to pay the $15 postage added AFTER the had accepted my offer. I left appropriate feedback, and eBay deleted it and struck me with the unpaid item strike. So I'm innocent, but being treated like a criminal when it was the SELLER who did the absolute wrong thing. It makes me sick.

stick to your guns mollycrownmolly i wish i had taken alot more agressive action earlier, but at that stage i found it impossible to find a phone number to talk to anyone at ebay and replies to emails were basically all pointed to the rights of the seller. even told to read the sellers rules even though i was a buyer. ebay are using their endless pages of policies to humour people. ive been through page after page of their policies and now beleive you would need a diploma and alot more time then most normal people to find their actual rules. i have even asked them to tell me exactly where it says a seller can up postage prices after buyer has committed to buy and won item. if i get an answer which im sure i wont, i will post it here where it is clear to buyers and i take this opportunity to ask ebay to do that here for us all to see. i dont mind being proven wrong but have been brought up in a world of self pride and honour, and this goes against every thing i beleive in.
so tell us ebay is it within your policies that a seller can rise the price of the postage cost after buyer has commited to buy and won item
if yes is your reply does ebay see this as being an ethical way to do business

Send that question to Ebay direct and let us know what they say, please.

I have already done this and have not yet had an answer supplied This is ebays opportunity to prove that they are a reputable company. As far as I am concerned this is an ebay controlled site & if ebay do not read & take note of what people write & say in these forums then my question is already answered Please do not wait up for their answer.

One of the problems with this scenario is that once an invoice is paid, it is basically deemed acceptance of the charges (neithe eBay nor PayPal provide a proper dispute resolution process for partial refunds of excess postage - eg you can open a dispute in PP about postage charges, but unless the seller voluntarily issues a refund, if you escalate the dispute to a claim, it will close in the seller's favour pretty much instantly).
The other issue is eBay's lack of care if the seller abuses the facility to re-invoice with added charges (this is actually necessary in a lot of cases, sometimes I'll have a buyer request a postage service not offered in the listing, and generally the easiest way to go about it is have them purchase the item and wait for a revised invoice).
The best eBay seem to be prepared to do is allow members to appeal unpaid item strikes (should the seller raise a dispute and a strike be issued for non-payment).
I looked up the current policy, and was a little surprised to see that they don't have anything that does expressly forbid adding extra charges to an original quote (for the same service etc). The only thing it says now is that a seller can not charge anything extra relating to postage if the postage is listed as free.

thankyou for your reply. this reply seems to be exactly where we stand as buyers on ebay and sums up my original warning to buyers perfectly.
thankyou

err no you have that wrong stu
this site is controlled by a company called LITHIUM (as you will see from the logo on the bottom of every page)
it is sub contracted out by eBay but they do not run it, read it, or remove posts, that's all done by Lithium.
it has been many years since eBay ran any of their 'chat rooms'
