Did you mean:

does a seller have a legal right to stop or cancel an active auction with no reserve.

as a buyer, i would expect a high standard when it comes to buying or selling.

so let's say your sell an item and it's not doing to well, this is an auction so once an auction started and once bidding has started, as a buyer you expect the auction to run till the end of the countdown and a winner is noteifiled, yes well i hope we can all agree on that now.

now if the seller stops and or cancels the auction because he/she's auction is not doing to well, well i know that's an unfair deal on the buyer, so the buyer should be legally bound to complete the auction. if the same thing happened in a public auction house, with no reserve.

A buyer needs to believe an active auction will run till the end. does it say anyware in the auction terms that a seller a right to cancel an auction and if so does the seller need to prove why he/she cancelled the auction.

on a personal note I get **bleep** off when an auction is cancelled on me.

yes it's a 2 way street, business vs private sellers, who wins and who loses, this is the balance we should aim for, fair in all dealing.

ebay is not an Auction House  , private purchases between a buyer and seller means that the seller owns the item until sold and paid for .

Sellers are allowed to withdraw a listing , otherwise the facility to do so wouldn't be here . Unfortunately maybe some people list things at ebays recommendation of 99c hoping that  they will do really well when in fact these days your far better off starting at the price you want .

Ebay only has reserves for Cars, Bikes, Boats categories

Contract Law sets out the rules of an auction.

Yes, the law does say that an auction can be cancelled at anytime prior to anticipated conclusion.

No, not legally. I am not sure about eBay policy though. Presuming that the person selling the goods own them and has the legal right to sell them, they are legally entitled to offer those goods for sale, and are equally entitled to withdraw those goods from sale at any time prior to the formation of a binding contract.

These are the rules and laws regardless of whether you are a business or a private seller.

Ebay policy is that a seller may cancel an auction at any time up to the last 12 hours. In the last 12 hours they cannot cancel the listing but they can cancel individual bids.

Buyers have the right to withdraw a bid at any time up to the last 12 hours.

I think the OP is just having a gripe at sellers who cancel their auctions....Not so much the legalities of the practice... It would be pointless to try to force a seller to sell an item to you if they changed their mind. You wouldn't win as no-one is interested in helping you sort it out.. Move on ...I know it can be dissapointing if you won, say a car, for $1 ...but to be honest , would YOU want to sell it at that price ?
