Yes, a bit of fun is good, even healthy, but in many threads people just mock the OP (and on top of that the mocking posts are liked several times), which seems to be odd for adults. And it does not really matter if the question was pertinent or not or even silly. Look at other English-speaking eBay boards, and they don't mock so much.
I agree that there is no age limit for having fun though, if done in a way that does not aim at hurting others or making them feel not welcome, in particular when it is their first post and they don't even realize it is a public forum.
"Little boxes" seems to be the "nicer version" of "Another Brick in the Wall".

Pot/Kettle
So you come to the board with snide insinuations and wish to claim self-righteousness.
Diolch i Dduw dim ond yy gallu sydd gennych chi i orfodi eich barn ar fforymau siarad Saesneg.

Hello, everyone. It's very important to keep your discussion relevant to the topic. If you have something else to talk about, please start a new thread. Remember irrelevant posts might be removed. Thanks.

I am going to post on other boards from now on.
How on earth are the posts in this thread relevant?
Enjoy feeling accomplished by bullying others.
I am laughing with my British friends at your jokes, like "it sucks" or a fan for a leaf blower. Such relevant posts.

The answer is that strictly speaking, they aren't relevant. Quite often a thread will wander into a bit of word play or joking once some of the regulars feel the topic has been covered.
I guess this can be disconcerting for newbies, especially if they aren't used to message boards.
It won't do to imply your British friends are above all this. I have been a regular on British sanddancer board for a couple of decades and believe you me, this board is tame compared to what I have seen. Messageboards are like this, everywhere. Same as facebook sites. Human nature.😄
To answer the actual question at the start.
Unfortunately, I suspect stephelin thought he was contacting ebay. I am not sure he knew he was posting on a public messageboard. If that is the case, then it is unlikely he will be back to read replies and the replies, even if they are a bit terse at times, do cover things. They say (to sum up)
1. The device may in fact be a dual use one so the OP needs to double check.
2. If we had the item number, we'd have a better chance of judging and being helpful.
3. If the item is not as described, stephelin can open an ebay claim for a refund on that basis.
4. If the item is not made to Australian standards, it may be unsafe or may not last well anyway.
Personally, if I were stephelin, I'd open a claim (if the item definitely doesn't vacuum) and after that, I'd buy those sorts of items in a real shop with a real warranty as ebay can be a minefield unless you're careful.

Hi Springy, Arcs British friends, don't have a sense of humour either, actually they don't exist, They have 17 posts on these boards, but Zero posts on their UK forums account, opened 2 days prior to the Oz account.
