When or if you opened a dispute with Paypal did you send the phone back to the address that they (Paypal) would have given you?
If you did then you should have been able to add the tracking directly into the Paypal dispute case.
If for some reason you went outside the dispute process and sent it back to an address that the seller gave you, then that is probably why you're having trouble with Paypal.

Why blame paypal?
You are supposed to return an item with tracking that can be checked on line.

I reckon they've bought a fake iPhone from a Chinese seller, and that seller has duped them into going outside the proper process, so that Paypal is unlikely to help them.........................

Going back through the old posts, it seems the seller is Malaysian, with a supposed warehouse in Sydney. It would be interesting to know the process the thread dragger took....whether they posted back to Sydney or Malaysia.
I said it 2+ years ago, I'll say it again, never EVER buy phones and whatnot on eBay, ESPECIALLY from overseas!

I was ripped off by <Removed> - bought an iPhone with 12 month warranty.
Phone stopped working within warranty period. Contacted them - Long delays in their responses.
Returned phone to them to address they provided in Port Botany (Tradeworks Air Express c/o Seko Global Logistics).
After some time, I received a replacement iphone - which does not work.
Now <Removed> say the item is out of warranty and they can't do anything.
What a load of tripe!
When purchasint the item, they said "Item location: Sydney, Australia", which is why I purchased it.
<Removed> are located in Malaysia and they use the Seko company as a mail box, thus pretending they are operating in Australia - all lies. Do not fall for it!
Bad merchant - Ebay and Paypal both abdicate responsibility.
Will never buy an item of value on Ebay again!!!

If only people used the tools ebay gives them!!
Did you open a dispute with ebay or Paypal? Or just blindly send the item back to the seller, bypassing ebays returns?
You could've had your money back if you'd followed correct procedure.
You didn't even leave feedback to warn others about this seller.

@ecfan33,
If you have decided never again to buy phones on eBay, then at least there is something of value that you have received throughout the whole business.
I do feel for you; it's certainly a deceptive situation to see items listed that are apparently from an Australian seller, and that thus you think to yourself that the item will be Australian (suitable for Australian market) and covered by Australian consumer law.
But on eBay, I have a rule about phones, electrical items, and similar. If it's a new phone I want, I will only ever buy from an Australian business. Usually I just upgrade on a new contract from Optus, anyway, as they give me an excellent deal that covers 4 or 5 devices.
But don't ever ever ever buy a new phone from a seller that seems at first glance to be based in Australia, but who isn't a recognised business in Australia. Check seller location, not just item location. Look through the negatives - see if there is a consistent pattern about item misrepresentation. And - importantly - don't believe a warranty from an overseas seller or an Australian seller that is not a business. (Check ABN if it is a business, if you don't recognise the name.) A warranty from an Asian seller is not worth 01100001 00100000 01100100 01101111 01100111 00100111 01110011 00100000 01110011 01101110 01100101 01100101 01111010 01100101.
I have bought new electrical items via eBay, but only from sellers that I know, and only if eBay were offering a really good discount at the time, and only if the seller's reputation was good in my eyes and I knew that if a problem arose, I was genuinely covered by a warranty and I could rely on Consumer Law. In general, these sellers (large sellers known to all Australians) have their own websites, and I can purchase directly from them.
DISCLAIMERS:
DISCLAIMER: I once bought a used iPhone on eBay from a local seller (not a business) in an emergency family situation. I contacted the seller beforehand, and we spoke on two occasions. I was confident that the seller was a genuine individual in Australia and that she had a legitimate reason for selling the iPhone. That's the only sort of situation where I'd make a purchase of that kind.

I was unable to leave feedback because with all the stuffing around they did it pushed me past the deadline. Currently raised with PayPal but eBay refuse to do anything more despite this being a long term issue.

Unfortunately the phone I wanted was no longer offered by many Australian retailers which is why I turned to eBay / <Removed> / TRADEW0R KS Int. which has now become a nightmare.
I've learnt my lesson now.
