not buying from US any more - global shipping too much

I am finding I can't buy from US any more. This global shipping program (an ebay scheme?) has added so much onto the cost, as everything has to be "priority shipping" at least, where sellers before would charge for just the first class airmail. So instead of paying say $16 for a mid-weight garment or pair of shoes, it's $33 and upward. And sellers subscribing to this scheme can't adjust or change anything for you.  Tough luck to them - because I used to buy a lot from the US.

I asked one US seller if they would send package USPS in lieu of GSP.They wouldn't budge.  Postage difference was $7.50 vs $44.65 - that's insane in anybody's book!

Have had luck with other sellers though   : - )

It happened to me several times in the very early days of the program but I was howled down when I said so....I was told in no uncertain terms that I was "mistaken" (a polite way of saying I was a liar).

I also know for certain that the last item I received via the GSP was handed to Australia Post for delivery once it arrived in Australia...AP insisted the address was wrong and returned it to FedEx who finally delivered it 5 weeks after I paid for it.  Some "service".

My latest disaster with the GSP....after 9 days I had to contact the seller to ask for a tracking number which was sent promptly BUT now that I am able to track it I find that Pitney Bowes have given me 2 tracking numbers for 2 parcels...for a pair of earrings.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!

lyndal I am not being stupid but this is a genuine question, have they split the pair of earrings into two parcels? Or is it still one parcel but 2 different tracking numbers?

No, not a stupid question Bump....I asked myself the same thing and I guess I will only find out when the parcel/s arrive.   I have given up trying to work out anything to do with the GSP but I do hope they are a bit quicker than the item at Christmas.....5 weeks for a Priority Shipping item.

Dave, that would be why I did not see you there. There were some rather nice men's shoes posted by Boris.

I have received several parcels through the GSP. Not one was repackaged by PB, although they are paid to do so.

Some were delivered by Australia Post, some by Fedex.

I am relieved they didn't.

Re: not buying from US any more - global shipping too much

I just received an item from the US posted with the Global rip off programme (against my own rules but I reallyyyyy wanted the item) and they arrived posted using USPS which is irritating as it would have cost 30% less and would have taken 4 less days if the Seller had just posted direct to me.

Not only that but the item had been re packaged by Pickya Nose (Pitney Bowes) with absolutely no care taken  whatsoever.

The item was not sent by USPS. If PB repackaged it, it must have been sent by the normal airfreight method to an Australian Fedex hub for onward delivery. I have seen pictures of shipping labels for GSP items and the onward shipping label is often stuck over the USPS label the seller used to send the item to Kentucky leaving the top part visible, making it look to a casual glance as if the item was sent USPS all the way.

The only way an item can arrive by USPS is if the seller sends direct to the buyer instead of forwarding it through the GSP depot.

I am so glad to see someone else who had their item sent through the USPS when they paid for the Priority service of the GSP.

It happened to me several times in the very early days of the program but I was howled down when I said so....I was told in no uncertain terms that I was "mistaken" (a polite way of saying I was a liar).

As explained above, if the item the poster refers to had been repackaged, it could not have come by USPS. The most probable cause of your misapprehension was one label stuck on top of another. Or a seller sending direct.  The GSP does not use any USPS services, but the seller may well use USPS to send the item to Kentucky.

I'm not saying you are a liar, just that you took a quick look at the package, saw USPS and left it at that.
