not buying from US any more - global shipping too much

I am finding I can't buy from US any more. This global shipping program (an ebay scheme?) has added so much onto the cost, as everything has to be "priority shipping" at least, where sellers before would charge for just the first class airmail. So instead of paying say $16 for a mid-weight garment or pair of shoes, it's $33 and upward. And sellers subscribing to this scheme can't adjust or change anything for you.  Tough luck to them - because I used to buy a lot from the US.

I'm glad if they can, thanks for reply.

That's rough - I'd say if they charge for one service and ship with another, they deserve 0 score for postage and at least a remark in their feedback, to warn others.

resist, resist, I say - but also let them know why you're not buying - otherwsie they don'ty twig that their issue is the postage

I am so glad to see someone else who had their item sent through the USPS when they paid for the Priority service of the GSP.

It happened to me several times in the very early days of the program but I was howled down when I said so....I was told in no uncertain terms that I was "mistaken" (a polite way of saying I was a liar).

I also know for certain that the last item I received via the GSP was handed to Australia Post for delivery once it arrived in Australia...AP insisted the address was wrong and returned it to FedEx who finally delivered it 5 weeks after I paid for it.  Some "service".

My latest disaster with the GSP....after 9 days I had to contact the seller to ask for a tracking number which was sent promptly BUT now that I am able to track it I find that Pitney Bowes have given me 2 tracking numbers for 2 parcels...for a pair of earrings.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!

lyndal I am not being stupid but this is a genuine question, have they split the pair of earrings into two parcels? Or is it still one parcel but 2 different tracking numbers?

Bump, I can now answer your question.  My parcel has arrived and contained a small box with both earrings in it.  But there is still a second? parcel out there somewhere, according to the second tracking number.

Thankfully this parcel only took 25 days to arrive after I paid....a bit better than the 5 weeks for the last one.

But the interesting thing about this is the number of modes of delivery.....there is a USPS postage sticker on the parcel where the seller has sent the item to Erlanger KY,  then an International sticker with the FedEx tracking number to Australia.  And finally there is an Australia Post eParcel label with my address and stating that the sender is Federal Express Australia at Mascot.  There are very specific instructions to obtain a signature if the premises are attended or if unattended to card and leave in a secure area out of the weather or return to the PO.   It was in my letterbox, and no attempt was made to obtain a signature.

What utter madness....USPS--FedEx--AP just to get a small parcel to Australia.  No wonder it is so expensive.

Re: not buying from US any more - global shipping too much

I wanted to buy a $2 book. It asked me to pay $42+ in shipping. I will NOT being buying anything through sellers who now use this Global Shipping and once you have it you can't get rid of it. I feel E-Bay made a HUGE mistake in implimenting this. It will NO DOUBT cause sales to go down for them and sellers. The average I paid for clothes items was $10-$18 dollars. With Global shipping at $42+ I will not be buying as much or buying from people who don't have it. Where does the extra money go? NOT to the seller I'll bet.

Global Shipping is terrible. People SHOULD read the small print BEFORE getting into it.

The extra money for shipping never goes to the seller.   The payment is divided in paypal and the seller gets the item cost and the shipping amount goes to Pitney Bowes who deal with all the packing and paperwork to send the item internationally.

As I said on the previous page...

I went digging around on the eBay US boards and found the steps needed for the seller to 'opt out' of the Global Shipping Program.  For anyone interested it appears to be:

(My eBay summary page)

account > site preferences > shipping preferences > Offer the Global Shipping Program > edit > no

You won't see those options on the Aussie ebay but if you are curious to see what it looks like yourself you can probably just log in via the ebay.com site and have a look (and spread the word to those US sellers who are willing to be flexible on the shipping situation).

I am a US seller and the GSP will opt in even if you want to ship overseas yourself. I have found the only way to continue to offer shipping to my customers overseas is to open a store in their country. I just opened a store today in Australia. The only downside is the first 30 days you need to ship Priority to confrim fast delivery in order to get paid in Paypal. After that the first-class option will be available.

If you like Victoria's Secret come check out my store: angel-apparel-and-beauty-shop-australia

also, on ebay US at flirtysexylittlethings if you would like to see feedback
