saw an item advertised for $120 + $16 postage
with 'make an offer'
so i made an offer of $100 + the postage
got no reply and the offer expired.
then i get a message from ebay the item has been relisted so i go take a look.
its now $100 with free delivery!
so i buy it and today got a message to say its 'on its way' with an australia post tracking number!!
the guy could have accepted my offer and got the postage money?
must have cost at least $16 to post if not more, its quite large if not that heavy.

Will the fan from your old unit fit the one you just purchased.
Something to consider does your fan vent into your roof cavity or to the outside. If it vents into the roof cavity now would be a good time to purchase a seperate fan that will duct to the outside.

hi, i wanted a complete new unit the same as i allready have as the one i have is very old and ive noticed when cleaning the unit the metal parts are rusting (including the motor, living at the seaside)
i saw this one and thought great, its perfect.
put in my original offer and the guy never took the offer and the item ended.
next day i got an ebay update the item had been relisted.
so i checked it out and he had reduced the price to what i'd offered but now with free delivery.
so i grabbed it.
only to discover there was no motor/fan in it.
i didnt even know they ever made a unit without a fan, kinda silly in my view as why would you cut a big hole in your ceiling to fit this if you allready had a fan unit?
you would remove the old one and put in the new one with an internal fan. (well i would)
my unit is ducted through the ceiling to a spinning vent.
another reason to want an exact unit so everything matches up.
electrician would take little time to pull out the old unit and install the new.
giving me another 20 years plus of reliable service.
IXL explained a new unit would require rewiring to the switches as now with LED lamps you must have it wired so the heat lamps cannot be ON at the same time as the LED light.
mine is set up so you can have light, heat lamps or both.

I don't know why you didn't just look at Bunnings. They have Tastics for under $100 for the complete kit.
i not only checked out bunnings but i contacted the IXL company themselves.
yes, i can buy a new 'tastic' unit for under $100 from bunnings however the new models have been updated with LED lights that require rewiring of the home by an electrician and we all know when we call an electrician expect to pay a lot.
so thats why i wanted a unit the same as my old one. a simple swap over same for same.
i allready said i havent a leg to stand on over this, this thread is my rant that a seller did something i wouldnt do
knowingly not mention something a buyer could well not realise.
i wonder if anyone telling me 'oh well you should have read everything on the box' would have seen the listing and known there was no fan in this unit?
its easy when i have explained how i got duped.
now i am not and have not left negative feedback and i had no intention of doing so. that doesnt mean i cant express my thoughts on how i got duped. the seller didnt break any laws of selling, in fact he used the oldest trick in the book.
just dont tell them.
used car salesmen have used the same technique for ever.
But you weren't duped. You got what you paid for. You got what was in the ad. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I think you need to look on the bright side here. At least you got it at the cheaper price without postage. It could have been worse, he could have accepted your first offer.
I can understand your disappointment. You had it in mind that it was going to be exactly like the one you already have in your home.
And to be honest, for the price the seller was charging for an item several years old and considering new ones can be bought for much the same price, I can see why you might have imagined the unit had more to it than it did.
However, the ad itself is straightforward, the photos are clear and nowhere in the ad did the seller mention a fan or imply it.
So I think you're stuck with it.
Your options would be to ask the seller if possibly you could return (at your expense) for a refund. I am not getting good vibes about that one as it seems you have not got off to a good start. But you could ask politely and see how you go. He can only say no and you would be no worse off than now.
The other option might be to sell this unit (I suspect at a loss) and bite the bullet and just buy the new one from Bunnings. I know that isn't what you wanted as you'll need to get an electrician but at least you'll get a warranty, the latest model etc.
If you ask around friends, you'll often find someone who knows an electrician who might do it on a weekend for cash in hand for a bit cheaper.
Good luck.

" is some small print on a box in a photo good enough to make this not a missleading listing."
With the greatest of respect.
I think this is similar to your 9th. photo of a repaired wishbone not mentioned in your description...which as you said could be clearly seen...with the aid of the Parkes Telscope while wearing strong glasses.

similar? my item was never sold as "NEW" but 'refurbished"
in which case i suplied photos from all angles to allow the buyer to check out for faults and the repaired part was quite visible in the photo 9
this guy put just 2 photos whith neither showing the 'fault'
he relied totally on the picture of the box with a small mention of the 'no fan'
i stick by my opinion he knew if he said it had no motor or fan he would have not got $100 for the unit.

i think i have found a way to get a fan/motor and install it, ive ordered a IXL exhaust fan 8", i hope they have used the same motor and fan blade in the fan only unit.
i'll pull the motor out and stick it into the heat unit.

But it is not a fault David....there is no mention of a fan in either the title, the description or the photos.
To be honest, I know nothing about this brand but no way would I be expecing a fan in the unit when there is nothing mentioned about a fan anywhere.
I am glad I am not a seller when I see buyers behaving as you are....blaming the seller for your wishful thinking.

I know nothing about how these things work, but if you're working around electrical things, just make sure you stay safe. That would be my only worry.
