You're more awake now because you are thinking about it. But later on, as we all do, we forget to be aware and we go back to sleep, living our mechanical lives and being subject to cause and effect and therefore having no free will.

Mlor - No, I left the Buddhist group I was a member of. It was getting too political and was moving away from true Buddhism. It was not easy to leave but I had been becoming disillusioned for the last couple of years before I left.
However, I still love the Buddhist teachings/philosophies and often listen to a Buddhist talk online but I no longer call myself a Buddhist.
Joh - a couple of years ago I was driving home late one night when I heard a voice in my head (my own voice BTW lol) that said very firmly "WAKE UP". Within those words I had a kind of revelation about how unawake I had been living my life. It led to all kinds of internal change.

Buddhism did get me through the turmoil I was in and equally so did my best friend, my daughter (thank you for the very expensive spa day for both of us!) and the amazing people here at CW.
I find a lot of religious skepics find Buddhism to be the leat 'offensive'. It's a very practical religion/philosophy when you take away the cultural 'add on's/superstitions'.
