I think it is important to understand here are still more Takata airbag recalls to be advertised.
The manufacturers are targeting the Takata "alpha" air bag first as these airbags have been proven to have caused numerous fatalities to front and rear seat passengers. The metal shards generally puncture the roof of the car in the right hand rear quarter and exit hitting anything in their flightpath.
What is a Takata alpha airbag?
Alpha airbags are a subset of Takata airbags that were installed in some vehicles supplied in Australia between 2001 and 2004. Alpha airbags have been identified as posing a significantly higher safety risk than other Takata inflators because they have been shown to rupture more frequently.
What is the 'future recall list'?
Essentially, it's a new list of cars that will need to have their airbags replaced in the future.
It's a work-in-progress, and you can expect more cars to be added to it.
The ACCC added the Audi A5, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Skoda Octavia, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Golf, Holden Cruze and Toyota Yaris, among other models, to the list yesterday
