I think that is what we all hope for Iza, that funding best benefits those who need it most. There are so many people out there struggling and in desperate need of assistance. I hope that when the funding is reallocated it will indeed be used for its intended purpose to help those most in need.

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

and many of us can't pay for the help our kids may need (for their whole life) in order to become more productive and reach their full potential with as little impact on the rest of the family and community as a whole.

I am caring .Not earning money as I once did.I don't expect anyone to do that for me.

I am not ashamed to admit that I need some help to help my son...if it's there and if i have the money, the ability to get him there I will do it and I will pay it if I can.Sometimes I and many others can't do that for one reason or another...it isn't easy.Attitudes of some people can hurt further as I'm sure you are aware.

and If my son (22yrs) didn't have us..i won't even go there!

I am in the same boat Iza, as a sole parent and sole carer for my young bloke, it has been a huge struggle - things like his sleeping issues and anxiety mean he can't use public transport and has to be driven in the mornings at least, the price of fuel goes up and up and with no help from any disability funding (we have never received 1 cent) it is a real struggle to get him to uni - he has to do some of his lectures online because I can't afford the fuel to drive him. He cannot handwrite so uses a tablet computer he bought with one of his 1st year scholarships, it has already had almost the maximum allowable in repairs under the extended warranty he bought when he bought it, now his wifi card is dying, so he cannot access the internet at uni or at home unless he sits right next to the modem. He can't afford to replace it of course. This is having a significant impact on him, but where to turn for help?

No one cares of course, but we keep plodding away.

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

Hi Islandretro,

I appreciate the difficulties you have and are dealing with.
How wonderful that your son is going to Uni.It does sound as though both He and you really could do with support to help him achieve his goals.

I wish i had some useful suggestions for you.
I was a single parent however have now been happily married for nearly 9yrs.

Financially we manage on his income though it doesn't leave much left over.I can remember the struggles when I was a single Mum.I can only imagine how much harder it must be now that the cost of living has risen so much.

Does your son have involvement with other Services such as job/training agencies? I think they can offer financial help sometimes to help with the costs involved in study?

Does the Uni offer low interest or no interest loans?

Bella,
I hope so too.
I was just reading an A Vic Gov Audit titled
"Individual Funding for Disabilty Services'
September 2011

It does explain quite a bit.

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

I need some advice am in a pickle! DD has been doing DE fr the last part this year and its been a struggle. We only saw the psych 3 - 4 times (only visits once a month) I missed three appointments, one going away, second the car broke down and thirdly I was so stressed out I completely forgot (not like me but what is done is done).

Anyway DE want me to go and see another Psych but I need forms filled in if she is to continue next year. Current one is looking like she won't do it. If I send her back to school she will fail dismally going by academic performance. I will have to pull DD 14 out of school because they will be in the same class and that's a recipe for disaster. School don't want them together.

I am not up to homeschooling year 8. Primary fine but year 8 is just too much.

I don't know what to do it all feels so ruddy stressful ๐Ÿ˜ž

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

I really think you need to try to contact someone that knows the ropes and knows the right people to make contact with...

Is there a support group of mothers in a similar situation?

I think the situation that you are in is very unique and really the best people to talk to are the ones that have walked in your shoes.

I gather you are looking for a new psych?? One that knows what the DE people want???

It is really hard to navigate the way through.. :-x

Sometimes I wish you had access to the wonderful professionals I take C to. They wouldn't hesitate to fill in the forms for you.

Can't help much except for this ((((((hugs)))))).
