Little man tries the defiance thing, or flat out refuses and throws a tantrum when I give him a NOW or else warning type voice, but I've found often if I challenge him to a race (bet you I can finish the dishes before you finish your shower, or bet I can count to 20 before you pack all the lego away etc) it has worked 99% of the time.

Otherwise, use what he likes as the tool, no shower each night, no comp or games next day.

Good luck, (HUGS) Breeeaaatheeeee !!

Oh, the food. If it's possible, Put what you know he will eat on a plate on the table (or wherever he can see it) and walk away. Don't say anything, he'll eat if he's hungry, you know he's eating what you need him to eat and he thinks he has WON ! & you don't have a power struggle.

I always have a bowl of apples out, even if tool takes one and only eats 4 bites out of it at least he's eaten something.

Hello to all,

I popped in a while ago to say my son was doing testing to see what was up, and now we have the diagnosis of aspergers and dyslexia. This is only 3 weeks old so still sinking in. We are following up on ST, OT, social skills groups and anxiety/anger management. Been to a behavioral optom and god knows what else, I just know it has been a bit of bill after bill.

So about my son he is nearly 10 and we have known for a while and approached class teachers for them to say he is just behind, went a pead yrs ago and he did bring it up but soon after I got very sick. I have always put this on me as his first years at school I was in and out of hospital and felt that he did not have a stable base to start with but more we read into things we both thought somethings not right. As for his symptoms he walks on his tip toes all the time, hates eye contact, very organised in his workspaces, has temper moments, is funny with food, has a lot of trouble in social skills, school work is way behind even though he gives it 120%, hates sports to the point of melting down at school. But he is loveable to me and very caring of toddlers he plays with his cousins and watches out for them but can not handle kids his own age.

I have worked out a basic routine for him that is followable when I am in hospital and just made things more structured at home.

Thats about all really, I have 2 other children dd12 and ds8

thanks being listening and look out as i may attack you all with questions soon.

Welcome 1981jjjda :-x

I have found that sometimes it does seem like it's bill after bill.

What area do you live in? I live in Melbourne's west and would be happy to meet up for a coffee & chat (& help if you need it).

This will only be able to children 7 years and under..

My son was diagnosed last Monday, he is 12 yrs old and we don't even qualify for the Helping children with Autism package because my son is now too old.

I have not read this thread yet but I thought I would post this link although I am sure you have all seen it before.

Diagnosis and treatment services for older children would be funded by Medicare.

A rebate for the development of treatment and management plans for children under 13 would be introduced, Ms Gillard said.
