I'm going to speak to the school today but the difficulty is they think she is happy. In fact the assistant principal told OH how happy and settled she is.

Now that is an obvious trait of Autism if ever I saw one.

They don't show the stress in the unfamiliar, stress causing environment, they show it later at home.

My boy is not doing too bad at high school, but the school thinks it's going better than it is!

Well, I have just come home from meeting with the Special Ed unit lady that is in charge of Mr 12.. The teacher aid that is in his class was also there. Mr 12 refuses to take advantage of this lady but she is there to help another kid so she keeps an eye on him. His English teacher also turned up.. she is part time because she has 11 month old twins..

They were fantastic but I spent half the time crying as I had another difficult night and morning with my son. They said it looks like he is happy and settled.. Just like others have experienced... but the good thing is that these ladies with the Special Ed Unit are familiar with these kids.. The one that goes into some of his classes said he sort of zones out.. she believes he has Audio Sensory Processing Disorder.. she said he goes blank like he is having an epileptic fit and then comes to again. It is a classic symptom of kids that internalise their stress and it is also a common thing for kids to do when they are having problems processing information.

When kids do this to cope the teachers don't see it as it is pretty subtle. When they zone out to process the directive they have been given they then miss the next three steps that the teacher is talking about. When they get home to do their homework they really do not know what to do as they missed it..

Also, kids that can cope with the "real" word during recess appear to be normal and happy yet in reality they are just there trying to fit in.. unless the other kids pick up on any quirks that they have and make an issue of it the teachers will think all is fine..

Anyway.. I feel like I could cry all day... I know I will help my son to figure out a plan but right now it all seems so overwhelming.

She does have a point though Sheep ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that after living with special needs kids and constantly working to deal with so many issues that then going to work and having to do it for others as well would be too much..

I don't blame Sheepy for wanting to get away from it and study something totally different. I wish I could run off into another realm right now..

Guess what? They all surprised, can't believe the support. I am so glad I took that step and went into school. I have a feeling its all going to be ok.

I've been in touch with the doctor but can't get in till Monday but they are very reluctant to prescribe melatonin so will see what happens. I've organised for the Pead records to be sent up.

In the mean time I've been to the pharmacy and am going to try another herbal remedy, don't know if it will do much but worth a shot.

Thanks everyone for your support... ๐Ÿ™‚

Bella, so pleased that you feel better about things today. Are you able to share what the school is going to do to support you?

I rang the GP and even though I have folders full of diagnosis they refuse to prescribe without consultation with a Pediatrician.

So we have to wait till Monday and hopefully the Pediatrician will fax through the notes. In the mean time I'll try the Valerian. There is no guarantee the GP will prescribe but we will try.

DD just got home and she seems so much happier today, maybe her meltdown has helped her to let it all out so to speak.

Back to your question Sheepy while I have some time. The school introduced us to the social worker that visits who had some helpful ideas. We all had a meeting which resulted in some back up plans going into place as well as supports. They are also keeping an eye on her at lunch time etc and helping her to connect with her peers.

They came up with a few ides, me going on camp with her, driving her up every day if necessary, going home early if needed. So lots of flexibility there.

DD is much better tonight so I think last night might have been a release of a lot of built up anxiety.
