Can you do a course now and be employed later, do you know? I have the time now.....
I do have skills and other degrees.....and was considering a course to be a teacher but not sure I want to do that? spend the time doing it?

Karen, if you already have a Bachelors in something, you can do a Graduate Diploma of education in one year - making you a qualified teacher..... there's all sorts of levels from primary to adult - not sure though if in Qld there is a specific one for special needs...... when I did it, you had to go to NSW for that - I think it is just 1 course in one semester - the special needs component.

Thanks sheep for that, not sure I could do special needs......I think having a special bond with my grandchild is one thing...to work with other children may not be what I can do?

I guess its up to the individual but if your posts on here are anything to go by you are a very compassionate caring person. You also have an amazing ability to relate to people regardless of how they come across so personally I think you have some pretty special skills there that could benefit the sector.

ummm, I'm pretty sure it is any Bachelors -

This is from the Griffith site for primary teaching

Admission requirements
You will need a completed bachelors degree (or equivalent) which must have sufficient breadth to address the range of teaching areas expected by employers.

These key learning areas include: The Arts; English; Health and Physical Education; Mathematics; Science; Study of Society and Environment and Technology. You can explore these key learning areas further on the Queensland Studies Authority6 website.

While prior work or relevant professional experience is a not a requirement for eligibility for admission, applicants will be encouraged (for the purposes of selection) to include in their application a statement and/or evidence relating to the nature of any previous experience which they feel would be relevant to their suitability for teaching - for example, additional certification such as in community learning settings.

I'm pretty sure that you could pull those KLA's out of most degrees as you would have had english at least as a prerequisite to start the undergraduate degree, and I would think that religion itself may fall under the arts? because there is a section for religious studies in the Bachelor of arts...... - maybe just ring or email and ask.....
