Yes Catmad Tony Attwood discussed in one of his lectures that before there were psychologists observing people and detecting aspie traits, there were writers who were noticing aspie characters, even though they didn't have a name for it then, and that Mr Darcy had some definite traits there. There are probably lots more in earlier fiction. Sherlock Holmes seems very aspie to me.

I think we do....I see them in myself and in my daughter, however, they are unremarkable..in that they are not so severe that they cause a problem. Isn't it the combination and the extent that make the diagnosis? Hard to explain what I mean.

I know what you mean Az.
I was going to add to that but i don't know how to say what I'm thinking...lol

I'll try...

Maybe that if there's a genetic link that some traits may be seen in some people but not symptomatic (recessive).

yes, I think so....one day they may be able to find that genetic link.
For us, it was the realisation that miss was so different, her reactions so different, to other children her age in the same situations.

yes, everyone has traits, it's just a matter of how many and to what degree.
There is a genetic link with aspergers, and both the paeds my son went to wrote out family trees with family history. J is at least 4th generation aspie- he, his uncle, grandfather and great grandfather are all aspies, it could go back further but who knows. Also diagnosed are 2 of my cousins and one of my nephews. Js father is also an aspie. I have many traits and if I were to seek a diagnosis I would most probably get it. Thats all I know of, but I don't see much of my family so there may be more.

J has been suspended for a week because of a violent meltdown during which he hurt another student. Yesterday he was sitting at the kitchen table doing his work and he just started crying and said "I don't know why I am like this, I don't want to be, I want to be a good boy, but I guess I was just born this way" it broke my heart ๐Ÿ˜ž
