Sheep..... since he only has 200 appointments a year and already has so many patients, I think we are satisfied that we can access therapies etc as things stand. I anticipate that her parents committment to her will mean she will have everything she needs to help her. :-x Thank you, I appreciate all the help you have given.

Lots of missing posts lately.. I hope it was a self reported one.

some interesting people have aspie traits.

Apparently Kevin Rudd is full of them.. now to me that makes a lot of sense. He has a strong sense of where he wants to go with a one track mind to get there. He was put in as PM even though he had great difficulty socially with both sides of his party. He is able to work crazy hours and like to control everything in his world. Unfortunately the people around him find him difficult to work and communicate with.

I found that rather comforting. It is nice to know that our kids can end up being PM and it is nice to know that with a lot of work we can help our kids to over come some of the traits that will make success an actual success. No matter how brilliant our kids are in one area if they don't learn to get along with others their rise to the top will be socially difficult.

Jane Austin apparently had a keen eye and lots of her characters have aspie traits.. Just have a good look at Mr Darcy. I have always loved that character and when you look at it from the perspective that he is possibly aspie all of his shortcomings make so much sense. No wonder Ms Bennett fell in love with him.

Kevin Rudd is a bit odd and nerdy, yes, but nothing like a person with Aspergers, he is first and foremost a diplomat, and being diplomatic is NOT one of the strengths of having Aspergers syndrome! I don't think he had any problems socially with the Labor factions; he had problems with them politically.

If you want to use "Aspie traits" in this manner maybe Tony Abbotts mindless inflexible adherence to saying "No" to everything could be interpreted as repetitive and rigid behaviour - would that make him a possible "Aspie" as well?

Fitzwilliam Darcy I will agree with though - he certainly had the social skills deficits and inflexibilty we see in a lot of our AS kids

Our kids can, of course, do just about anything they want with the right supports - DS is in his second year at uni and last semester received a Deans Commendation for Academic Excellence (excuse the small motherly boast here ๐Ÿ™‚ ), he seems to be getting back into his usual academic groove after taking the better part of a year to adjust to the change from school to uni. He does have excellent support from the university disability services though, which is a great help and moral support for him.

Retro, you have never met my son...
He is very adapt at dealing with other kids, he has no problem telling them what to do and taking charge even if others don't want him too.

He was the first one to go up and talk to other kids where as my eldest waited for his brother to break the ice.

He looks people in the eye as that is what I taught him to do from a very young age, in fact he looks so intensely that he give the impression that he wants a fight

He is very good at subtle humour which also goes against the Aspie trend.

Hence it took five years to get a diagnosis.

As I said in my above post... they have traits... 100% of the population have traits... 75% have very noticeable traits.... yet only about 4% have enough traits that interfere in their daily life to the point that they are noticeably different.

I agree with you that yes Abbott does have a few traits but his opposition to the carbon tax is not an aspie trait.

And if you don't think that Rudd had a problem socially just ask the girl on the airforce plane that was a recipient to Rudd's tantrum at a meal that was not right. Or the tantrum about his hairdryer... or the high turnover of staff that could not work to Rudd's standards.

Besides.. it was not me that pointed out these people. It was Tony Attwood.

And he pointed them out as a positive. That our kids can lead normal lives and get jobs and have long term meaningful relationships..

And yes.. I too congratulate you on your DS return to education... :-x

My son had a hard time transitioning into high school and I hope that when he gets older he too will be able to do what your son has done.
