I forgot to say I went through similar with my youngest. Don't give up you just need to find some specialists that are up to date with autism and its diagnosis.

Also for goodness sakes, most AS kids have some areas they are ok in and others they are not. what a complete wally GRRRR

Good on you Dolly. Also get the school to put their concerns in writing and take any other documentation with you. (you've probably done that anyway)

Did he do the scales/autism checklist? I forget their name now.

I'm sorry you've had a rotten time Dolly. You deserve all the support possible.

BIG HUGS my friend:-x

Doll....I am so sorry this happened.

The same thing happened to us for 2-3 years before Graeme was diagnosed with aspergers.

Back and forth to specialists. ๐Ÿ˜ž

i dont think so webby. he just asked a hole lot of questions about joe and his behaviour and took alot of notes. i gave him a letter from joes teacher (which to me read like two pages of an aspergers case study lol).
he also drew a family tree (?) ans weighed, measured etc. him
he was going to call joes teacher to discuss him further after we left, why the heck he didnt call to speak with her while we were still there i dont know- that would have made more sence dont you think???

Hi Dolly :-x

They rarely do things that make sense.....that's part of the problem.

Glad to hear your going to get a second opinion.

Get a third or fourth if you have to.

Take care and I hope all goes well for you.

Dolly that is so frustrating! The old paed my sister saw at initially Caboolture was outrageous - He played a game with my VERY ASD nephew that ended up with him looking at his face (how many fingers am I holding up as he moved closed and closer to his own face) and when my nephew finally looked at him he turned to me and said (and I quote) "See - he just made eye contact - he doesn't have any sort of autism" !!

You are absolutely right to seek a 2nd opinion Mick O'keeffe http://cd.net.au/mo or Mark Davoren (under paediatricians) http://www.northwestprivatehospital.com.au/doctors/documents/NWPHVMOEzyfind.pdf

cheers
Rae

Hi, Doll, sorry to hear that you did not get the result that you wanted. I have no other advice other than what has been posted above all I can say is welcome to the ASD Merry Go Round -oh - and get yourself to a doctor - if you are not coping - you need some attention - this could be a rough path for you so you need to be strong and in the right frame of mind.

Oh, just thought of some advice - keep a journal of EVERYTHING that you observe - sometimes us Aspies aren't able to explain things just the right way when we are under a 30 min time limit (that's what you get for your $360)

Exactly how would he benefit at school from having the label? What could the school do that they can't already do? I know that you know this but the label won't stop the bullies, nor will it in itself cause improvement - until you get the label, just start the treatment that you know he needs

Im sorry to hear the day didnt go well Doll
We had similar trouble with doctors with their "we dont want to label him " attitude.
A receptionist at my new pead told me that when I get a referal to have written on it "testing for ASD" that opened all the doors for us.No doctor believed me and thought that because Darcy was doing "normal" things he was fine but heres your drugs. He wasnt hyper or smashing walls or doors.
Dont stop until you find a doctor you fel comfy with.If their is a university near you call them and ask if they have early intervention.I got my new pead by talking to to them and it was the best call I ever made.Hope it all works out for you
