Special education....and the lack of people who actually understand ASD kids, I imagine there would be any amount of positions available for people skilled in that?
When miss goes to school, I am considering doing something in education...maybe...except I like being at home and available to my grandchildren at any time.

Support reading is always an area of great need... she would be proud to have you there and it does not take a lot of time.. as she gets older you can always go in and do a bit of sewing or other crafty stuff.

I went in and did gardening with the kids.. took groups of five and we potted up seedlings into pots.. we had a great time and it was a treat for the kids to just do something outside of the class room.

ahhh - but there are so many more aspects to special education than just ASD kids. To study special education I would have to be familiar with all special needs. Remember that ASD only makes up about 4% of the population for all levels - so not so many job opportunities to specialize in only ASD's.

My interests are not in special needs per se, but in MY children. As a consequence of living with and trying to manage ASD 24/7 for the last 12 of 15 years, I have gathered a little bit of knowledge on this particular special need and how it effects MY children.

I still can't see what the point is though as to why I would be more suited to special education rather than law. I like law.

as for doing something in education - I already have that t-shirt.

I didn't read that as the point? or more suited though?
If law is what you like, law is what you should do.

You can train as a Teachers Aid... plenty of work here in QLD thanks to the great Autism Package the government has in place.

Not sure how long it takes but I knew a few mothers doing the course.. all got work when they finished.

Can you do a course now and be employed later, do you know? I have the time now.....
I do have skills and other degrees.....and was considering a course to be a teacher but not sure I want to do that? spend the time doing it?

I'm a qualified teachers aide, you can do the course but you can be employed as an aide without it. Depends on whether its schools in particular or teachers aiding you would want to do.

A course in disability and community services might be helpful. If you are interested in case work a dip in welfare and or disability can do that. Really depends on what you might like to do.

A lot of special schools use volunteers as well, so you can gain experience or get a feel for the job that way.
