46 degrees now....far out!
Adelaide's top temp. went to 46.6, eclipsing the past record of 46.1 set in 1939. The BOM expect up to 20 other recording sites to set new records in the state, once top temp. figures are confirmed and compared to past records. Adelaide is also experiencing one of its driest January's on record.
The next big concern for farmers will be a lack of water. Farm dams are drying up quickly with the recent run of hot weather exacerbating the problem. If the hot, dry weather extends into the autumn, things could get a bit interesting for livestock producers. Some meteorological models are predicting an El Nino weather event forming in autumn. This often brings drought conditions to Eastern and Southern Australia. Not the news many where hoping for.

David, have you put some ice cubes in Foo's water bowl?
I found they worked a treat when we had our Westie.
He was still quite young when we had our first heatwave.....I went to all his waterbowls and topped them up with ice cubes. He took a few minutes to work out what they were then next thing I heard him cruching away....it sent shivers down my spine.
From then on it was ice cubes every summer with regular top ups because he oved eating them.
i have to be careful with anything hard in Foos food as he has no teeth to crush hard things.
we have survived the big heat, woke up to 23C and a sea breeze.
although the airconditioners water was back on it took most of the night to get the house back to a comfortable under 30C.
Foo and Rosie are fine, Foo was a happy wagging tail 'lets go dad" doggy at 7am.

an evaporative aircooler, roof mounted.
very cheap to run compared to reversecycle refirgerated airconditioners.

Thanks for that David, I hadn't heard of those before. I knew about evaporative indoor coolers but not about outside units xx
