> If you live in America, you are 4 times more likely to be murdered than if you live in Britain, almost 6 times more likely than in Germany, and 13 times more likely than in Japan...
> 66% of all murders in America involve guns - in Britain the figure is under 10%...
> There is not a flicker of consensus in America about what to do about this grisly harvest that last year gathered in 9,000 lives...

US president Barack Obama has asked media outlets to chart gun deaths versus terrorism deaths in the United States. Here’s what that looks like.
"We spend over $1 trillion and pass countless laws and devote entire agencies to preventing terrorist attacks on our soil — and rightfully so — and yet we have a Congress that explicitly blocks us from even collecting data on how we could potentially reduce gun deaths. How can that be?”
...
“When Americans are killed in mine disasters, we work to make mines safer. When Americans are killed in floods and hurricanes, we make communities safer. When roads are unsafe, we fix them to reduce auto fatalities. We have seatbelt laws because we know it saves lives.
“So the notion that gun violence is somehow different, that our freedom and our Constitution prohibits any modest regulation of how we use a deadly weapon … doesn’t make sense.”

The gunman who opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College targeted Christians specifically, according to the father of a wounded student.
Before going into spinal surgery, Anastasia Boylan told her father and brother the gunman entered her classroom firing. The professor in the classroom was shot point blank. Others were hit, she told her family.
Everyone in the classroom dropped to the ground.
The gunman, while reloading his handgun, ordered the students to stand up if they were Christians, Boylan told her family.
"And they would stand up and he said, 'Good, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second,'" Boylan's father, Stacy, told CNN, relaying her account.
"And then he shot and killed them."

ok so the Americans go on about "the right to bare arms" their ammendment rights?
Can we take a look at the word amendment for a moment? Isnt that something that has changed? been amended? So why cant the right to bare arms also be amended?
All those other amendments america has, 1st 2nd and so on have they been changed from something to be called an amendment?
Or am I way off?

I think you'd have to agree with me that if my neighbour was having a barbeque, I'd look fairly strange, to put it nicely, if I leant over the fence and shouted at them "That's not how you barbeque!".
There are some lengths to which neighbours don't go, at least in my book.
