What's that? 18? 19 this year alone?
I can't fathom why the government (and society) isn't attacking this situation head on? Is it because these are women?
This one didn't even make front page news. The cricket win did.

Seriously? The numbers are staggering.
Collectively this would amount to one of this countries most tragic events outside of natural disasters.
The silence is heartbreaking.Yes, to think that 2 young male deaths was all it took for immediate action in a campaign to stop the deadly punch.
All these dead women and they devise a stay at home program and cut DV support funding.
don't know why youse guys get so worked up about it.
it's only women.
what's next? equal wages? LOL

I realize the need for legal services for domestic violence. And frankly, I believe the funding is more to pay for the wages of lawyers, advocates, etc than for actual victims. And appears to be more for after the event.
The question I have, is what can be done to prevent the violence in the first place. I don't have the answer.

the answer is simple: teach your kids respect for women.
the lower the respect for women is in a society the more women are raped, beaten and killed.
there are graphs for that but i am too lazy to google it.

Until we have the answers to prevention the existing programs need to remain.

The funding provides free legal advice for the vulnerable..to.take that away.. Is greatly to their detriment.

Don't bring your petty racist rants in here mate.
Domestic violence goes beyond the boundaries of race. Violence towards women and children are in a class of their own. And in regards to domestic violence and murder the statistics show that your average anglo saxon is generally the culprit.
So shove your "culture and religion" argument where it belongs.
I do beg your pardon. I thought this was a serious discussion. The minute you played the ‘R’ card you turned the topic into a frivolity. I think you need more than a martini.

Okay, but I wonder how many of those who died, sought any legal advice prior.
