Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Anyone up for a challenge. :^O

I am stuck on this one. :_|

I have Adversity Brown....birth date unknown.....marries Mark Marshall 21-5-1765 in Baumber Lincolnshire England....her marriage certificate doesn't name parents but does say she is a spinster.

No known children of the marriage.

Adversity Marshall nee Brown dies 10-3-1783

I am tring to find out anything I can about her.

This is what I am considering might be mine.....

Adversity Cousin...born 4-1-1716 in Middle Rasen to Thomas and Elizabeth Cousin

Is Adversity Cousin my Adversity Brown's mother.......but I can't find a marriage of Adversity Cousin to anyone....nor a death.

My instincts say there is a connection.....it is an extremely distinctive christian name even for 1700's.

Any thoughts?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

flashie, That name leads me to wonder if the family may have been Quakers - or some other religion which went in for those kind of names. Are there any other similar names in either family - Patience, Charity etc?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

GSE......I know nothing of Adversity other than she was my Great X4 grandfathers first wife....and because there appears to have been no children of the marriage I can't figure a naming pattern.

I do doubt that she was Quaker....only because the Marshall family have always been highly connected to the St Margarets Church in Lincolnshire as priests and wardens.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

It's a strange set up - this 'saints' bit. If a lady of consequence begins an abbey or a convent and is the leader of same them she will eventually become a 'saint'... there are many women whose marriages came to an end - more likely due to husband dying in a battle who then seem to attend convent life and eventually do something special that gains them the title of Saint.

I seem to have a fair few of them in my line and if I google their names I can usually find out why they are 'saints'.. I don't think they usually do anything more grand than setting up or giving their money to a convent.

http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/christians/tp/Saints.htm

Most of yours and my 'saints' are not what would be saints today matega.. wish they were tho ?^O

NOTE: be very very very careful of your royals and saints. The Americans have been known to alter the trees to suit themselves.. they just 'lerve the Royals... so check dates of birth and death, mothers and fathers, country of birth (NOT USA)...
Women could have children from the age of 13 to about (if they were really lucky) 50 not before or after that.

Boys can sire babies from about 13 to just about their whole lives (IF they have the energy)

If you have any doubts or problems do contact me as I can also go back to the 300 ADs and no doubt our Royals are the same :^O

I do hope you find a convict sooner or later.. try Tasmania, Port Arthur for instance... you might hit it lucky there ๐Ÿ™‚

Flashie I will 'play' with Adversity and see if I can be lateral enough to find something to help ๐Ÿ™‚
