Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Bobthomas....I have sent you a message.

Darkie....I have one relative who went to Canada...and he has a distinctive name so wont be hard to find....but one relative doesn't justify the cost of having world wide ancestry for me.

I am free for any further searches.

Same with me Flashie, all my ancestors are from UK and Europe, no direct lines anywhere else.

I do marvel at how one line has travelled... from Persia to Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Orkneys, Scotland, Ireland, England and then her to Australia... how's that for around the world in 60 generations :^O

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Flashie, how to you order BD&M certificates from the UK?

I might have to try and break the Gibson wall down with a couple of certificates if I can get them.

Fred which cliff was that? :^O

Wow! lessthan40, that is a wonderful diary to have.

Still paddling along with my other family line Flashie, but might come back to the troublesom one a little later.

My luck lay in the fact that a number of them were Scots Royal, and the records for them are very good. Of course being royal also meant a lot of people have been researching them and uncovering more and more history, so a lot of it was pretty easy to find... mind you, a lot of it is misleading and I have spent hours researching various people in the hope that I have got it right.

I also keep it in mind that one slip in the gene pool and it all goes out the window.

I have settled with the thought that I'm learning a lot of interesting history. My word the Scots were a firey lot :^O

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Not that helpful for those searching, but one of mine came from pommy land on a boat in 1857.
Took 100 days.
He kept a diary.

Thank you for sharing that, it was a very interesting read which I enjoyed immensely ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

You need to register first....at no cost...then order your certificate.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Darkie...are you sure this will help with you Gibsons.....civil registration didn't start in UK until 1837.....so there are only BMD certificates available from that year.....if you do purchase a certificate online you will need to lookup the reference online first......this can be done at no cost on Freereg.......your UK certificates are 9 pound 25 I think....and you can leave a reference.....as in John Smith 1850.....father John.

If you want earlier than that you will need to go for parish records....and the microfilms for them are available on order at your local Mormon family centre for a small fee....and viewable there.

You can find the microfilms you need on familysearch site.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I keep a paper tree too....some of the stuff I dont; even enter on my tree on ancestry....I mean things like people who are still with us are not on my tree.

I said in my last post that you can find the reference number necessary to order your certificates in the UK of Freereg.....that is wrong......it is freebmd
