Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I got this in an email today. http://www.unlockthepast.com.au/events/history-and-genealogy-cruise-november-2011-scottish-irish-theme?rf=13887.121921&cmk=1764289

Would LOVE to do it but it's a bit short notice for work etc and I may not have and $$ after daughter's wedding in October. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

does anyone have any suggestions for me?

my great grandfather seems to have told his family that he was born in Longford, Tasmania..he also stated that in official documents..
but I have never been able to find his baptism in or around that area..

so I am incredibly stumped and have not been able to get his parents names...ugh..

he is my big brick wall..and it is incredibly frustrating to not be able to get much info on him when he is only a generation away

any suggestions?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

BC, have you tried the link to the orphanage I posted a few days back?

I have a similar brick wall, a great grandfather whose wedding and death records show he was born in Tasmania, but no record of birth. It was before registering births was compulsory though. I think I have found him in the orphanage, and I am now wondering whether his mother was a convict and he came over with her.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Blackcatt...I have been working on your dilema for the last few days.

There does not appear to be anyone of that name born here that I can find.

But what is showing up is a person of his name and age showing up in a childrens home here....unfortunately there is no place of birth listed or parents........so I don't know if he belongs to you or not.

I have checked out all his children and none of them are showing in peoples trees on ancestry.

Have you bought or seen his death certificate to see if his parents are named....he may just have not been registered at birth.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

hi flashie..he is such a mystery that I have often wondered whether he made his name up

:O

I have all of his children tracked down..I dont have anything with his parents names on it
I was so hoping that his marriage cert would have had it, but then when I received it (decades ago) it was that one all written in the same hand & didnt have the parents names on it
gggrrr

i will dig out my notes & see if there is anything that may be of help

thank you for looking..he has ben my big brick wall for so long..it would be great if we could find anything

:-x

Morning searchers....

Thanks to the luverly Flashie, I have found my Mum's Mum's parents and possibly my Great great grandfather on that side too...

Mum was thrilled as she didn't know anything about them really.

I don't know how you are all going so far back... Is there a special way?

The furthest I've got is GGGG...

Have a great weekend...:-D
