Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

It got the better of me last night and I started doing a bit of research on my natural family......but I didn't get far....as I only know a few names.......but I found a few interesting stories of those I did know in Trove.

Good on ya flashie... one thing will lead to another, it will be slow but I bet you do get some information as time goes on.

I knew one of the people on Bruny who was descended from the Oyster Bay and Bruny Island families... he could repeat his ancestry back about twelve generations. What was so sad was that he had an accident with a tractor and died, thus cutting all that history short. I just hope his family have records to keep it going.

Happy hunting, at least you have a beginning and when you think of the history in those ancestors... just as exciting as any other race only much longer here in Australia.

I bet you didn't know that the Australian aboriginals have been traced by DNA to South America and that there are still one or two people on very south of South America in Tierra Del Fuego that DNA proves are connected to the people here.

When you think of them setting out across the Pacific the mind boggles... We think single handed sailors travelling the Pacific today with all their electronic help are brave, but you have to wonder about their courage and how on earth they survived the trip back then. Not just a few of them, but enough to make ancestry right down to today ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Root chat sounds interesting chappies and I really must get into Family Tree Forum...

Well onward and upwards eh? ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have just been playing around with punchy's link and had to laugh at this...

Henry Gibson
City of London Sessions : Sessions Papers - Justices' Working Documents SL | PS, 4th September 1753
London, to wit. These are to Certify, That on the Fifth Day of September in the Twenty Seventh Year of the Reign of King GEORGE the Second, Henry Gibson was Convicted before me one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the City and Liberties of Uttering five Prophane Oaths in the Paris

My word the courts would be overloaded nowadays :^O

Lots of Henry Gibsons, but not 'mine' ๐Ÿ˜ž

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Because I have got stuck with my tree I have been working a little bit on my natural parents tree.

I have only concentrated on my (natural) grandmothers side so far.......didn't take me long to get stuck again.:^O

Darkie....do you think your Henry Gibson came from a small family....I find if they had no children or very few siblings they don't seem to leave much of a trail.

I am free if anyone wants any searchs done.

I know the surname of his natural mother.

what is the best way to try and find his natural family, please?

I know he has natural siblings.......

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Purple....you can send me the details and I can have a look.....but with only a surname to go on I don't hold much hope.

If you know hw has natural siblings you could try them.
