I keep coming in here saying I cannot believe this but I CANNOT believe this..
OVERNIGHT I have received photos of headstones of my ancestors including my 2nd great grandmother and it says she is from Scotland. The graves are near where I live (kind of) and they are a bit broken down. I know it will cost but I am going to go visit and enquire about getting them fixed up.
Thank you so much punch and thanks so much for all the information here you guys have given me

Thats a great idea Clair.
One of my ancestors grave stone, in St Kilda cemetery, has been vandalised, I havent been there, but there is a newspaper report about it. I wish I could afford to fix it up. It only occured to me recently that he has very few descendants, only 2 of his children had children of their own and I'm not sure the other family even know much about him. I could be wrong though, maybe they do, but nobody else seems to have researched him.

Shame they get vandalised 😞
St. Kilda cemetery, that would be an old cemetery. Can't think where in St. Kilda that is?
Do you guys have your trees public or private?
on 01-07-2012 10:03 AM
I dont know St Kilda very well, not sure of where the cemetery is myself. My sister went there when she was researching someone else, but she wasnt aware we had ancestors there at the time. I have dozens in Brighton cemetery and some in Melbourne as well. I'll have to go in there one day and see how many I can get around to.
My tree is public, but when I do them for other people I usually make them private unless I know they wont mind. Having them public makes it easier for people to contact you with queries or information.

Some great stories ladies, Clair I get a sense of real enthusiasm from you, it's great, I love coming here to see if you have found anything else.
I feel the same as you re broken headstones. Someone has vandalised my hubbys grt grandmothers just recently, FIL has the bits in his shed he had hoped to put it back together but a lot is missing, he wants it fixed but doesn't want to spend money:-( he says "I am not the only grandchild" and I think but yes you are the only one that cares for the family history (apart from me and I am only an in law). I am thinking of trying to do something about it.
Another member (who had pots of money, given to her son on her death) does not have a headstone at all and I am appalled as is my FIL. I feel I need to do something about that but she still has a son and grandchildren alive, what mean so and so's. I do believe they have squandered the money.
Punch, can you see if my tree is public or not, I get so confused with that setting, I keep twiddling it, not sure if it is anymore. If you can't find it under my surname look for the 1st part of my email addy as that is my user name.

Indigo I found a tree with your surname, but I dont think its the right one.
It has the last family were were tracing, the one with all the Mary Anns, but all up it only has 61 people and it doesnt have Susannah/Betsey.
Ummmm, if it is your tree, I think we could be related way back in the 1700's :^O
You also have a name in there in common with my MIL 😮
Do I sound like a stalker much :8} :^O
on 01-07-2012 09:09 PM
Stalker?:^O No You're o.k. I mean you must be because we are both into ancestry, lol.
Can't be my tree, mine has over 580 people in it, I also have a partial Stowe tree still sitting there, must get rid of that.
Actually when I do a search for my tree through the search function it doesn't come up yet I think it is set to public. Hmmm.
