Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

If anyone had an ancestor in WW1 in Australia most of thier service records are available on line on www.naa.gov.au. Some WW2 records have been digitised but as there are still many veterans alive, those ones aren't on-line.

Unfortunately british records weren't so lucky, the building they were stored in was bombed during WW2 and only some records survived, they are known as the "Burnt Documents/Records".

I've only have confirmed ancestry back to the mid 1800's, but I alledgedly have an ancestor that came out on the floating brothel on the second fleet. I haven't been able to confirm that line myself, but the person who researched it is very good at confirming his research

If you know exactly what records you want from post WW1 you can put in a request for them to be digitised if they have not already been done.

I have a copy of my first husbands Navy Service records from 1964 to the early 70s when they were computerised.
I was also able to see the records of several of his friends and commanding officers of several of the ships he served on.

I got quite a laugh out of my great uncle's records from WW1...he went AWL in London for 5 days and was punished by loss of pay. He also spent a lot of time in hospital with "lung complaints"...the effects of gassing, which gave him problems for the rest of his life. As a kid I just thought he had smokers cough, but Dad told me later it was the after-effects of being gassed.

Would you believe I got a reply from Curious Fox this morning... how quick is that.

Where on earth do people like Flashie find all these amazing things?

It was the same people I asked you to look for Flashie, so they must have been hiding from you ๐Ÿ™‚

Onward and upward then... happy hunting.
