Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Robert Maxwell? ooohh-errr. :^O

They may have erected Hadrian's wall for that reason, darkside :^O
May have been to stop my ancestors as well, as we were neighbouring reivers and often collaborators with the Armstrong family. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ There were also marriages between the two families.

Look at one of the Armstrong buildings! http://www.scotclans.com/bletherskite/?p=853

Incidentally, both our ancestors and the Armstrongs became too powerful (& troublesome) that it was decided that both familes land would be confiscated and the families scattered "all over the place".
Many were sent to America or Northern Ireland.

It didn't stop either family "getting in the thick of it" though :^O
One of our ancestors became one of the earliest governors of Gibraltar - don't know how that happened :^O

Bet he was a pirate col ๐Ÿ™‚ how could a man called 'Johnny Armstrong' not be a pirate?

So many families ended up in Ireland from Scotland. So now we have the 'Dickeys' and the 'Armstrongs' over there. Let's see what Gil comes up with ๐Ÿ™‚

Morning all ๐Ÿ™‚

Gil so glad you found it an interesting link. If you join Ancestry I might be able to link up some of our families..

I have the Stewarts and Bruces in mine and I wouldn't be surprised if you do too.

Hi ya kayedon, great you joined us, you never know, we could become a small ancestry group, wouldn't that be great.

Wish I could get over to the UK and do a search, but too expensive ๐Ÿ˜ž

Yep col, Google things, just about anything will be found there and just recently I actually got an email from Ancestry thanking me for adding more information.. I didn't know I had :^O

YHM flashie ๐Ÿ™‚

This is fun isn't it :8}

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I just discovered this thread while I was searching for another and just had to read through it. I'm supposed to be in bed by now but have done a quick scan through all the posts. My father's cousin wrote a great book about my maternal grandmother's family - The Eldridges who came from Battle and the ones who migrated nearly all ended up in Bankstown NSW . We visited there (Battle) in 2000 - would love to go back if we could afford it and do a bit more research.

My OH's father's family came from Greenock - went there also and saw his house.

My paternal great grandmother was married to a John Noble - her mother died on the boat coming from New York and John married her sister when they were in Melbourne which was where the ship docked. Saw Noble on your list Col - have to look into that.
The Nobles eventually settled in Mosman and their house is still standing - quite an impressive house.

Finally found my mother's sister death registration yesterday after looking for ages - it was under her de-facto's surname.

I've done quite a bit of research using Ancestry.com.au and Genes United but worked out expensive - my OH has also bought lots of Birth & Death certificates. I find it very addictive and had to stop for a while and get back to eBay lol!!!

Strange how people have already found connections here - this could well become a free ancestry thread!!! Funny if we find out lots of us are related. Many thanks darkie for starting it - I'll be back. Now to find the thread I was looking for and off to bed before I turn into a pumpkin.

There is an Eldridge family tree on the net that details the convict arrivals and the Bankstown Eldridges who arrived later as free settlers (I think). My OH is an Eldridge descendant so you may be related.

For Flashie

Thank you so much for all your patient efforts. Thanks to you I have been able to add two earlier generations to my family tree and discover that yes, I really am a cousin, (about one squillion times removed:^O) of Angela Lansbury - her great grandfather and my great, great grandmother were siblings.
