Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Advice please.
I decided to collate all my information into one family tree and found a template at www.myheritage.com. What I need to know is, does anyone else here use this site and how safe is it - as in if I use their family tree builder, is there a danger ofanyone trawling the site being able to glean enough information for identity theft.

Margo, I think I may have found your 'Lily' Lane.

http://www.easystreetretreat.com.au/australianroyalty/individual.php?pid=I64106&ged=purnellmccord.ged

If this is her, then her name was actually Lucy and although she came on a convict ship she was not a convict herself.

You gave the date of her arrival as 1895 (presume you meant 1795) Lucy arrived in January 1796.

And she 'married' to two soldiers though they were not officers.

Unfortunately there is no mention of her parents.

Hey she ele that is her for sure her name is lucy my sister is more into this than I am so I just saw your post now .

She had a lot of children I think our ancestors came from the second husband, I wonder if it is possible to trace his family.

I am more interested in ancient history than modern history.

I know from my fathers side his great great grandfather came out from germany on a ship called the Marbs they all dies except one child and his Mother.

You can use the free software to do your family tree (and print out reports, trees) without uploading it to the site. I believe you can set your online tree to invited guests only if you wish.

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Hi all ๐Ÿ™‚

That's a great site col.. it will surely prove useful for someone here.

I've never thought of identity theft ele, with so many millions in the world I reckon it would be the reverse of winning a million dollar lottery.

A rellie of mine - far and distant in the USA uses myheritage and has a huge tree going. This is what he says

"This site was created using MyHeritage.com. This is a great system that allows anyone like you and me to create a private site for their family, build their family tree and share family photos."

I think you would find it would be fine. If you are in Ancestry you can always start a new tree there... I seem to have about three. One I started with both sides of my family, then I decided to divide them and a tree for each of them.

Margo you are the same as me, I love the ancient history that my family is coming up with and can spend hours pouring over their stories.

I mucked up my ancestry.com site the other day and accidently beheaded a lot of them. It has kept me flat out getting them all back, but I think I have almost done it.

In the process one grandfather dating back to 1640 suddenly sprung parents that I had not been able to find. YIPEE sometimes mistakes pay off :^O

Hello Darki and Everyone,
I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying your searches.

Flashie,
Thankyou for the info.Sorry about my confusing message yesterday. There's a lot going on here and my head is not what it should be for geneology ATM.

I believe that what you have given me is accurate.
I mentioned the confusion with a Sarah and Frederick French (others have questioned if there were two Frederick Frenchs in the US or they were on in the same with an interesting story).I think i said Rutt (which you confirmed was my ancesters name not Sarah Bull as others believe). The name in America associated with Frederick French is a Sarah Bull (not Rutt as I said).

I believe that the women who contacted me on Ancestry is a relative...a distant cousin. She is the one who believes the surname is Bull not Rutt.I will try to contact her again and see what she has found. She said she had a marriage certificate and it says Bull...but that without glasses and after a few wines it could maybe look like Rutt!lol
Interesting that you could not find births for Sarah or her parents.

I'm just wondering Is the surname 'Minrite' (re Mary Minrite) correct?I can't find anything much under that surname when I google it that's all.

Thankyou again for everything.

P.S and as far as i know my family where not in the US...but again I don't know much.
It does make you wonder how many people lead double lives and/or adopted others names.

Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Ive done some of my Mum's side, but hit a hurdle so gave it away for a while. Then I found some extra info someone had posted on the net going back to around 1800, so I will have to find time to get back into it.

My sister in law has done hubby's side.
