Re: Anyone watching the birds this year?

The Collins St Falcons have fledged, but unfortunately the last one had developed a fatal illness.

They turned the cameras off out of respect for the little one who never made it     😭

I think they were 2 female and 2 male - unsure without  chat mode on.  I know the one that didn't make it was male.

Chick at Orange nest is called Yurraga which is Wiradjuri, the local indigenous language, for 'sunny'

No idea yet whether it's male or female.

Should know in the next few days.  It's due to fledge around Friday, give or take a day or so.

Feathers are coming in, but still a ball of fluff.  (And, yes, there's a lot of bird parts lying around)

BTW the nest box is in the top of a water tower that services the University.

It has been working overtime this weekend, so that is the 'helicopter' noise you hear.

It turns on and off.       It's not continuous.

Re: Anyone watching the birds this year?

Chick at Orange finally fledged this morning at 6.04 am.

Was overdue at 45 days, and still had fluff to shed, but the flight was successful.

Yurruga was deemed to be male and may return to the nest when he is strong enough

to make the height.

This cam operates 24/7/365 as the adult falcons defend their prime real estate.

The female usually spends her nights sleeping there.

Great looking fledge, but he only got as far as the ground in the trees below.

Cilla found him, checked him over and put him up off the ground away from predators.

He will have to sit there and be fed until he is stronger.
