At last, Abbott calling a spade a spade re terrorists and the legal system, bail

'Bad people' treating us as mugs: Abbott's national security warning

There will be no more "benefit of the doubt" for those who might be seeking to harm Australia, says Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who believes Australians are being played "for mugs".

"It's clear to me that for too long we have given those who might be a threat to our country the benefit of the doubt," he said on the video.

"There's been the benefit of the doubt at our borders, the benefit of the doubt for residency, the benefit of the doubt for citizenship and the benefit of the doubt at Centrelink.

"And in the courts, there has been bail, when clearly there should have been jail.

"We are a free and fair nation. But that doesn't mean we should let bad people play us for mugs, and all too often they have. Well, that's going to stop."

See, finally they are starting to wake up. In the early days they said it was a coincidence. Then it was a murder. Then it was a coincidence. Then it was simply because it just was. Excuses after excuses. Finally it has been said as it is.

He could apply the bail comment to more than just Monis.

Far too many serious crimes committed on bail.

Good. There is much work to be done. The very first thing to do is to form a review panel which will have the task of reviewing every application for refugee status going back 15 years. Those that don't meet the benchmark should be booted out of the country.

Why cant they be sent back ?

Kuwait isn't at war with anyone.

Cancel their visas and extradite after sentence carried out.

Edit
Village
Good idea.

Automatic cancel of welfare for all involved, possibly including families which will put pressure on them to
Sort out and report.

The HR Lawyers and do gooders will be up in arms over it but it needs to be done and quickly.

Also, pass a law, immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees granted visa tat do serious crime or terrorist activities
Are on a one strike and you are out policy, regardless of nationality.

So we may as well just get rid of the justice system then. If anyone  is 'suspected' of doing something, then we should just jail them?  A lot more thought needs to be given on the conseqeunces of what he is saying.

It's all good and fine to jump on the 'fear' bandwagon but as far as I'm aware, this country still has a reputable justice system that sees anyone and everyone given the opportunity to go before the courts.

If found guilty, then all appropriate action should be taken but we got rid the 'witches at the stake' type of behaviour years ago for very good reason.

Alex

I dont FEAR anyone, and wobetide any muslim who wants a 5 to one with me.
I am just as capable at everything they do if the push came to the shove.

Now, we are talking AFTER they have been to court, not before, like Monis who was out on bail.
Its not witches at the stake, it's stupid PC BS that lets serious criminals out on bail

Ok, occasionally a few might not get out that should but Jesus, the few over the many.

It went too far the wrong way and needs to be brought back.

e clearly says anyone who 'might be seeking to harm Australia'. And that does not mean, to me, that it is after court. That is what I was commenting on. Just how we are going to stop people who might be seeking to harm Australia is anyone's guess as you can do all the screening you like but it could be the one you missed.

Ok, we were talking about different things.

Well, what do you want, wait until they carry out the attack ?

Even being a flag waving supporter of ISIS should be enough to haul people in for questioning
And possible removal. The values of ISIS are in no way the same as ours and anyone who
Supports them can be shipped over there.

The lone wolf, one's you missed, well that happens, it catching the others beforehand which is important.

Well, what do you want, wait until they carry out the attack ?  Do you really want me to answer that or is that a rhetorical question?

No-one has the answers because no-one knows. They may shut down some who they suspect are planning something but they will likely miss others. Who knows? You can't punish everyone you suspect because of a few. I don't claim to have the answer. I just loathe seeing fear being used as a reason to take away hard fought for laws.

You have to ask how this is going to be implemented. Is it those who follow a certain religion? Is it those who don't like the some of Australia's ways? How exactly is it going to be determined? Those are some of my concerns.
