Aust Post is considering charging us to get post delivered

"Welfare and business groups say any move by Australia Post to charge a fee for mail delivery would disadvantage low-income earners and regional areas."

Yes, businesses especially, not using so much paper, saves trees. As do tablets in schools, ebooks .....

Parcel post makes a lot of profit for Aust post and that subsidises the losses for letters.. Not sustainable in the long term though.

That's true am3.  I could print out all my emails using expensive reflex copy paper and the overpriced printer cartridges from the post office.

No need to print out every email ( why would anyone ( aprt from elderly people who don't trust computers to lose all their info).. At work or at home, they are always there if you want to read them again). Only print ones that you think you want to pin on the fridge!

I don't print any email nor any online bills.

If you pay $2 a bill to receive it in the mail, compare that to receiving online instead and if you must print it, about 6c a page.

For tax purposes electronic records are fine, they don't need to be printed.

Online bills you just look at them, check the details, pay the amount due by netbanking. End of story for personal use.

For business, I just print the first page of the telephone bill for taxation purposes...probably don't even need to do that if they were saved electronically.

most paper bills etc use recycled paper and last month 3000 plus households in my area were with out internet for over 3 weeks. My son couldn't believe it, he was shocked (haha) - no guarantees this wouldn't happen again. Anyway why are we encouraging less services? I don't get it.  So what if the letter part of our AP doesn't run at a profit, it's an essentail service and the loss is covered by the profitable services AP does do, why would we want it to change - profit isn't everything - or is it these days.

Of course profit is the bottom line when running a business.

3000 people without internet for 3 weeks very many compared to those with it. Telstra can/should compensate them for that.

No need to live in the past either. If people object to online bills and receiving communications by email it surprises me they even have a computer and a net connection.
