from when I was there in the 80s
constantly besieged by people expeciting tips and selling souvenirs, can't even go on the beach without someone trying to sell you seashells.
From what I hear these days...
All the drunk young Aussies, just depressing.

Broome is lovely but now isn't the best time of the year for visiting. Very hot and humid at the moment and heading into cyclone season

If you really want to go to Bali book at a nice hotel at Nusa Dua, Get off plane and head straight for Nusa Dua and do not stay in Kuta it is Horrible. maybe a day at the markets in Kuta but not to stay.
Enjoyed our 2 trps there but there are better places to visit and no more expensive.

If it is only for a few days South Coast NSW (or North Coast for that a matter) would meet your requirements.
Overseas Thailand or Vietnam may be more suitable than Bali...even NZ.
