Bali, why do Australians go there?

I heard on the news another 2 Australians died in Bali. Why do Australians go there? We have better places to holiday at right here at home!

We have great food, fantastic beaches and many beautiful places to go to so why do Aussies feel the need to go to third world countries when we have everything here?

We are fortunate to have the best of everything why risk it all in a country with standards far below ours.

If I were given free flights + free cash to go to Bali I would decline! No way would I go there under any circumstances.

Support Australian jobs.

Support our economy.

Spend your money here.

Holiday our wonderful country.

How many more Australians have to die over there before people wake up?

No. I have not been and would not go.

Why not take a good holiday right here, take a mystery break http://mysterybreaks.virginaustralia.com/

You would not exchange your 6 star hotel room for a 1 star. So why would anyone exchange an Australian holiday for a third world holiday?

I've been and I wouldn't go back.

I'd rather see Australia.

I love Bali, I'm there at least 2-3 times a year, I can afford to travel elsewhere but I choose not to. It's only a three hour flight from Perth and there is no time difference. The political drama of recent times had no effect on Bali what so ever, the people are way to dependent on our tourist dollar to involve themselves in that!
Whilst WA is in the grip of the mining boom we have become one of most expensive places in Australia to holiday in, and how's this for airline gouging I can fly to Bali and back for less than 1/2 the price I can fly to
Port Hedland which is roughly 1/2 the distance. And don't get me started on the price of eating out!

Ifeel very sorry for the family of the two ladies that died BUT can you imagine what their saying about us in Ireland right now? Why go to Australia, the shark killing KING HIT capital of the world?

I'm not trying to justify my choices but defending my right to make them.

you don't need to justify or defend your choices .The OP wanted to know why and you have told us why you go.

Az you took the words right out of my mouth, the bit about " Have you ever been there"

I have, many, many times however after my last visit about 2 yrs ago I decided things had changed since I started going about 25 yrs ago and it did nothing for me anymore and  I have no desire to go again, these stories coming out of there lately make it even less of a place to want to go .

There is danger no matter where you go, you always have to be cautious no matter where but these days I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Bali is not third world lol, that's an uneducated comment.

I've got two bogan badges....been to Bali 6 times (but not for a few years) and loved it every time...cept for when the monkeys chased me to nick my wallet. That was scary 😄 but it's ok cos they got my sister's wallet instead.

Those mystery holidays go to places the tourists don't want to go, although I guess they'd be fun.

I've never had a desire to go because they have several things I hate. Heat, shopping & crowds, and I dont much care for the beach either.

I don't care for the beach either but they were still good holidays with friends and family, bit of shopping, eating, swimming for those who wanted to, sightseeing, chatting to locals.

can't help think of this .I'd want good travel insurance and to have faith in local authorities. How selective could our Government be with the 'ignored travel advisories' ?

Thousands of Australians finding themselves in trouble overseas are facing the prospect of new charges for government help.

On Saturday, Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop signalled a ''user-pays'' approach to consular assistance after 11,927 Australians sought help in the last financial year.

''Of course the Australian government is going to support those in trouble but there are circumstances where questions are raised why taxpayers should foot the bill,'' she said.

Ms Bishop outlined circumstances when government funding could be called into question: when people acted in defiance of local laws, travelled without insurance or ignored travel advisories.

Have you actually compared the cost? Holidays here are very very expensive compared to overseas. My daughter stayed in a 5 star hotel at a fraction of an equal hotel here. Flights accommodation and most meals were less than half price of a trip to Queensland. The people are friendly, sight seeing is wonderful and cheap!

I haven't been to Bali and don't intend too.

Holidays in Asia are much cheaper than Aust. The food and accom is very good for much lower cost. The airfares are reasonable.

I would rather holiday oseas than in Aust.
