Boat arrivals

Have any unauthorized boats carrying people with the intent to seek asylum in Australia arrived in the past few weeks?

Re: Boat arrivals

I'm not sure why you'd do something like that? It's always best to ask if you're hungry. None of the asylum seekers I know would ever do such a thing ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Boat arrivals

Yes I've seen the results of missionary work, Crikey. It's really sad, seeing how the patronising attitudes can wipe out the cultural pride of indigenous peoples. For example, thinking that Australian western education has more credence than theirs...and the assumption that success can only be measured by comparing behaviours to western outcomes. So sad, IMO.

Then they leave and the end begins.

I don't think I have ever heard of Effective Aid.  They look like they're doing a fantastic job.  I will make a donation Smiley Happy

Project Compassion is one that I have been supporting for many years now.

their beauty is that they are klargely operated by volunteers, so their administratioin costs are a bare minimum. A few years ago, it was 5%. compare that to charities such as World Vision who have admin costs of up to 45%

Most of the EA operations are, as I said run and supplied by volunteers/donations, but there are some things such as anual audits etc that have to be done by external independent professionals, so there is no choice but to pay for them.

They also do a lot of work here in Australia with Aboriginal Communities, so their interests are not just over seas.

Re: Boat arrivals

And yet are they not the same ones who invade a country uninvited with no identification and demand to to be fed, housed, entertained and medically cared for?

Or are you referring to a different group of refugees?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Boat arrivals

I know.  Those Charities do a fantastic job.  Our school supports another charity that looks after a small community in South America.   There are so many other religious charities that are in need of our support.  Through a friend, I found out about Muslim Aid Australia - have a look at the great work they do http://www.muslimaid.org.au/

Those kids in that video.

The ones who were receiving NO education at all.

How is that better?

Trapped in a foreign country, removed from their own country and unable to go back. No hope, no future.

Even if they did have access to an education from their country, they can't go back there to go to uni or build on their skills!

So do you advocate that they receive NO education and leave them with NO hope for their future?

How are "we" to teach them a curriculum, with which we have no experience or knowledge?

AND, to date, they have been there for 60 YEARS, what good is an education from their country of origin to them if they cannot return to where that education is valued and useful?

Isn't it better to provide an education from a country where they have hope of a future?

I know, there are just so many people who need help, eh?

It's impossible to help everyone, but at least some are trying to help some.

Even if they just help one person, it's a start.

Re: Boat arrivals

It is so good of you to bring them all to Australia, even if they do now speak in tongues.

I heard people speaking in tongues when I researched one of those radicalised evangelical religions. It was unnerving tbh, especially that they believed it was "real".
