And whilst I admire the empathy you feel for the pollution caused by Fukushima, I am surprised you don't have a the same empathy for the bigger problem of global pollution.

It's peculiar.

There's plenty of concern for global pollution, martini.

It's just that a tax on carbon won't fix it.

What else do you suggest would deter large polluters from changing their practices?

In my opinion, the tax is the logical direct deterrent.

Re: Carbon tax axed

Large polluting companies wouldn't bat an eyelid at carbon tax. They would simply absorb the tax, pass the cost on to the consumer and carry on with business as usual.

Smaller companies who feel they can't absorb the extra tax would either move operations offshore (wheree there's no carbon tax) or close down.

Neither of which helps the economy and makes little difference if any to global carbon pollution.

Just a cash grab for the government.

If the government, any government, were really concerned about pollution, they'd curtail the rampant production of junk worldwide.

You obviously forgot TA saying:

"If you want to put a price on carbon why not just do it with a simple tax."
