I wonder how long before someone starts to take bets on his return to Australia for the court date.
Personally I feel he will be protected as so many before him have been.
What a sick world we live in and unfortunately it is unlikely to change very much.

If Pell does return, he certainly will be protected by, if nothing else, the sheer mind numbing wealth of the Vatican and the high end lawyers it can and will afford to make this go away at all costs if possible. That kind of money moves mountains and history dictates that it is that kind of power that tramples heavily on those who equally deserve to have justice on their side, not just opaque laws generated to crush them because their pay packets could never reach those dizzy heights.

The Kangaroo Cardinal.
As we all know our Australian Coat of Arms - is the Emu & the Kangaroo.
Because neither can retreat.
Not betting the farm on this one.

The Vatican won't pay for his legal bill, and neither will the Sydney Catholic Church,
but he's got supporters who are trying to fund it.
He's hired a QC already, let him pay for his own damn defence, I say!

You might be right there Stawks, but to hire a QC costs an awful lot of money. If his supporters can't pick up all of it, do Cardinals earn that much money from their "employer" .. not sure what else to call the Vatican in his case?

Tas, according to -
http://www.simplyhired.com/salaries-k-catholic-cardinal-jobs.html
They make about 65K, but as much as 123K for the top 10%.
As for a QC, as quoted below -
http://www.legallawyers.com.au/legal-topics/law-firm-sydney/solicitor-prices/
$1000 an hour, or $8000 a day.
Strewth! I'm obviously in the wrong line of work, ha ha.
