Enid Blyton books - especially The Magic Faraway Tree series. Also Noddy when I was very young.
I also liked Winnie the Pooh and some of my mother's old books of fairy stories.
At age 9-10 I discovered sci fi by Robert Heinlein, Andre Norton etc at my local library and also Jean Plaidy's historical romances.
My other favourite books were the annuals that went with a weekly comic I used to buy - TV21, Captain Scarlet, Fireball XL5 etc.
I still have most of my childhood books.
