Cigarette tax is a good idea in so many ways

Smoking is just not enjoyable anymore anyway as it is just not socially acceptable.

You can't smoke here, you can't smoke there, what a terrible addiction to have 

Everyone should just give up!

I feel sorry for those addicted. And it does hit people at a lower socio economic level hardest 9as the biggest spenders on tobacco).

But generally I agree - it's a good thing.

And good to see that the govt isn't taking any garbage from lobby groups.

I guess when they get rid of all the smokers....who can they tax next.........mmmmm........the drinkers!

I'm addicted but I don't smoke, maybe I will take it up for a few weeks over Christmas I sometimes do that.

I love to smoke but people around me don't so it makes it not so enjoyable. Smokers must spend so much of their day hanging out which surely must make it unpleasant. It really is better not to smoke at all.

In the good old days we were able to smoke at work, on public transport, on planes etc so it was a more enjoyable habit lol

I gave up smoking approx 15 years ago.  Don't even know how much a packet is these days.

I started smoking in my teens. A few friends and I  would gather at someones home before school and we'd puff and thought we were so cool.    I use to nick packets from the neighbour when I was babysitting.  They weren't missed as he was a rep for a ciggy company and had cartons stashed.  My bad..

I've never smoked but can remember always working in a smoky haze as patients and staff nearly all smoked. I don't remember it worrying me then but would notice it now. 

Can't you light up after a romantic interlude in the bedroom like they do in old movies, Donna?

I don't know if it's a wise decision given an election's just around the corner. It's probably going to cost them at the ballot box especially in areas where they're trying to claw back some ground like the western suburbs.
