Cigarette tax is a good idea in so many ways

Smoking is just not enjoyable anymore anyway as it is just not socially acceptable.

You can't smoke here, you can't smoke there, what a terrible addiction to have 

Everyone should just give up!

I think the reasoning for not including alcohol is that not everyone that drinks is addicted but the vast majority of smokers are.

The other thing is that you will always be able to buy cheap alcohol, it is ridiculous that you can buy bottles of wine for 2 bucks.

A tax on luxury items is the way to go probably as that will not hurt the poor.

Either that or the booze lobby has too much clout in Canberra and Macquarie St.etc.

Can you!!! I only ever buy wine for casseroles and the cheapest they sell me is $5 a bottle.

Just curious to see what many smokers will cut back on or give up, to continue affording their addiction, and added revenue contribution. Might be a few less Maccas trips, and kids just get sandwiches instead?

A friend of mine has taken up electronic cigarettes, he is a very funny man (Margo knows him)

He came around recently to visit and came inside and said "you don't mind if I smoke" and lit it inside, I nearly screamed but there is no smell, just smoke. (pretend smoke lol)

This same friend was out for breakfast a few months ago at a cafe in Bondi, felt like a smoke and walked 10 meters away from the outdoor table, some woman got up and out of her chair, walked over to him and asked him to move away because he was smoking.

He said "hang on, I came over here to get away from you"
