I don’t seem to be able to drill down into some major websites anymore. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
For example, I can log into my bank’s website and see all my account balances but then I can’t drill down to see the transactions. I can get onto Gotalk’s website to see my home page but then can’t drill down to select my service to see the balances. I’ve also noticed that my Yahoo calendar does not display properly. It only shows the times of the appointments, not the details.
I have a Toshiba laptop that’s 3 yrs old. It runs on the Win7 operating system with Internet Explorer ver 9 as my browser. As far as I can see, apart from this problem, it’s in perfect condition and all programs run normally. I use McAfee protection software which regularly scans the disks and tells me that my computer is safe.
I have used another laptop computer on the same broadband account and it works fine. I’ve also checked my internet usage and I’m well within my limits (only used 50% with 2/3 of the usage month gone). I don’t think it’s anything to do with “popup blockers” either. If I turn them off it doesn’t make any diff.

thanks all for yr suggestions
so to summarise, my options are:
1. Stay with Firefox and just try and get my wife (and myself) used to it
2. Change to Google Chrome
3. Change back to IE9
not sure which way to go
- If I change to GC that means learning another new kind of browser and all its idiosyncrasies.
- Staying with FF isn't great cos it's slow and cumbersome & wife doesn't like it and can't get used to it and I cant choose my homepage
- I'm nervous bout changing BACK to IE9 in case the whole thing crashes
what's the consensus then, for best course of action?

go back to IE9
If you used it before then use it again... it is not bad or risky to do that.. just follow the instructions.
Just make sure you have another browser installed just in case..
Try Chrome just for the sake of trying it.. .it is always a good idea to have two browsers installed in my opinion...
Lots of people get very comfortable with what they know and are use to... but when something happens, even in an automatic update, it is always good to have a backup.

Personally, I would recommend that.
have you tried this to reset your homepage?

IE used to be the old Netscape which was the 1st or 2nd browser I ever used.
I found the IE was open to more viruses & it wouldn't allow me to open certain things in Selling Manager Pro. I moved onto Firefox & I do like it & it works better for ebay related sites but I like IE because it has more features or easier features.
I swap between the 2 & it works for me.

Thanks,
I've tried that to reset my homepage in FF but it's soooo frustrating that it continually reverts back to something called bearshare.com, no matter what Ido
any ideas how to solve this one?
could it be a browser add-on that you picked up? you will need to uninstall it.

No, ie knocked netscape off the top browser spot.

Also, Firefox seems to have its own problems eg: no matter what I set my home page to it always defaults to something called "search.bearshare.com"
That isn't a Firefox problem, you've picked up some Malware.. While McAfee tells you your computer is safe, it is only a virus scanner not a Spyware/Malware scanner..
Bear share is a sharing program where you can download music etc.. Someone in your household must have installed it.. See if you can remove it in your Add/Remove programs section in Control Panel..
Go and download a Spyware scanner like Super Anti Spyware and do a scan of your computer.. Depending on the level of infection you might need to do some other things to get rid of it completely..
Here is some information pertaining to Bear share

IMO Your biggest problem is IE so you need to get another browser; Chrome works well and isn't as confusing as Firefox

Hi all
Just letting you know that I uninstalled IE10 and everything is now back to normal! Wife is happy and so am I so thanks for all the advice.
Only remaining prob is that the comp seems to have slowed down since I started experiencing all this kerfuffling. Even now that I'm back to IE9 it's still slower than it was because this drama started
mebbe its just time to get a new comp?
