Its not being done retrospectively, it only applies to new contracts signed from now on.....So whats the problem ?

Insurance companies are not charities, or departments of Centrelink, they are a business. They offer the service of covering risks, paying out if that risk eventuates in exchange for a premium that reflects the risk plus operating costs and a small return to investor / owners. Insurance is not compulsary, no-one is forced to pay the premiums. Individuals can choose to prudently save a lot of extra money to cover their own personal risks themselves if they wish.

Tax payer funded basic, essential insurance is already covered by the state in the form of very good, universal health care, public liability insurance against injury or death on motor insurance and state funded paupers funerals for those without life insurance. The NDIS covers those who become incapacitated and basic Centrelink payments for those who lose their jobs..

If people want extra cover, over and above this, it is their responsability to ensure the product does what they need it to do and pay for it.

Re: Coronavirus update

for the last hour ive been sitting in the lounge reading the newspaper and listening to the ABC radio program.

nothing new there

but what i realised was the lack of traffic going past my little house, seems most residents are not out and about, which is excellent. they are listening and not travelling unless they have to.

what i also noticed was the cars that did go by were all being driven by quite old people, my guess 'greynomads' out sight seeing!

i know they arnt residents as my road is a dead end, they have to loop back past my house.

now older folk are the most vulnerable to this virus, the advice is 'dont go our unless you have to and make its short'

not drive about sight seeing.

sure sitting in your cars fine, but if they stop anywhere, like for fuel, they are exposed. or to buy something to eat.

some people just arnt taking this serious yet

Re: Coronavirus update

Sky News reported Spain has complained that only 30% of the coronavirus testing kits purchased from China are accurate and reliable. That means a high percentage of people who tested negative were in fact positive. Apparently other countries are reporting similar findings with the Chinese testing kits. Pretty worrying.
