so I do hope they don't expect anyone to have to go cold turkey. Shoppong is supposedly gooing to be done for them so no one should question a need for cigs or moderate alcohol. Now is not the time to start weaning people from addictions particularly in those awful conditions.
I would imagine they won't be cutting down on supplying cigarettes or moderate alcohol and by the sounds of it, they are well aware some of the residents may have drug problems and will provide some support for them.
The point is, this is only for 5 days. Sure, it may be prolonged for more time if a lot more cases break out, but at present, it is for 5 days. That isn't a lot to ask of people, especially given the weather has been cold and drizzly outside anyway and I doubt most people would be spending a lot of time outdoors at the moment in any case.
They are being asked to stay inside for 5 days. They will be supplied with food and most people would have already had some stocks in their pantry too. They have TV, they have internet access, they have a comfortable bed to sleep in. They can talk to people on the phone. People in wars put up with far more and I think too many people in our society have a sense of entitlement. It's time to tughen up a bit. They'll be getting support.
It reminds me of the early days when travellers were put into hotels and they whinged about that too. Getting their accommodation and meals paid for by the tax payer and still complaining. There are a lot of people out in society who will be homebound for the next 5 days too and they won't be getting free food delivered to them.
Unless this current crop of infections is brought back to manageable levels, it will take off as it has in Britain and USA. The fact is, you can't trust people to self isolate. Every test has shown that. 60% of the people would break a self imposed quarantine, so it is more than time for the government to start getting tough.
If the infection got totally out of hand, we'd be in the situation where a lot of health workers would be sick, medical help would be triaged with those over 60 less likely to get any help, we could expct a large death toll and with supply workers falling ill, we would probably also see breaks to the supply chain that would make any current shortages in supermarkets look like a picnic.
