ok but which one?    I thought there were about 30 border points.

Am assuming it's the whole border, what a bleeding mess this is becoming/has become

Yes it has.  Just wondering if all cars with Vic numberplates will be stopped on the highway   (but which highway) close to NSW?  It just doesn't seem workable.

SA has had border closures with VIC for many weeks now. The police have border controls directly on the border, but also run a constant loop of patrol cars up to 150 km. from the border on the main highways. These stop interstate registered cars well into the state. This helps to catch those who slip through the back roads etc and enter the highways 30 or 40 km. from the border.

They also run road block blitzes at choke points in main highways perhaps 100 - 150 km. from the border. One blitz 150 km. from the Vic. border  ( at Meningie ) caught 19 interstate motorists in one afternoon who had avoided the main roads into the state. Each person recieving a $1050 fine and 14 days monitored quarantine..........Man Very Happy

The only problem is that the patrols often only run 8am - 5 pm. with highways completely deserted in the middle of the night.

The vigilantes rule the night ....

But nonetheless itt's happening

As far as residents near border towns go, the South Australian government has a permit system where people apply online and receive a permit to cross the border to attend medical appointments, shopping or take kids to school.

This seems to work smoothly. My sister lives in Victoria, but works in a South Australian town close to the border. She hasn't had any dramas yet and she has been crossing back and forth over the border daily, for many weeks now under thOne suspected case had recently travelled to Melbourne, returning before harsher restrictions were introduced in hotspot suburbs.e permit scheme.  I cant see why N.S.W and Vic border towns should be any different.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NSW  Victoria border is NOTHING like any other border in Aus and what works for your sister wont work the same for that border.

In Albury and Wodonga alone (pop 100,000+) can have over 10,000 people that cross that border 5 days a week for work and health care.

That region now has three cases as one idiot decided to travel from a Melborne hotspot before stricter measured were put into place.

Should've put roadblocks on all the highways leading out from Melbourne as that's where the problem lies.

The country areas all managed any early cases quickly and effectively and showed the city how to best handle it but obviously they aren't smart enough to learn in the city but quick to punish for no reason.

With Yarrawonga  (8000 pop) and Mulwala (2000 pop) you'll have more people come from NSW to Vic as most of the shopping, health care, schooling, work is situated ther

Same with Tocumwal/Barooga where most of the same is situated in Cobram  (6000) which is in Victoria.

None of those would need a permit because they live in NSW but can come across the border into Vic and mingle with the people that need a permit to travel less than one km to NSW.

These all would have residents move back and forth across the border both or either way daily and many of those would cross over multiple times.

Looks like a similar permit system will be made available to residents of border towns along the river.  Of course no system is perfect, especially one implemented at very short notice, but the South Australian experience is that it works very well all things considered. I know a number of Victorian people who have permits and regularly travel to S.A. border towns and I haven't heard of any major dramas.

It is probably more of a convenience issue for people who may only cross the border now and then, having to apply for the permit and explain at the border why they need it. For the genuine, serious, regular cross border citizens its probably less of an issue than for the occasional border crosser.

Gosh I never knew that this troll was a regular on Ch 9. I always have had the view that 9 would fan the flames of any issue that causes xenophobia but I never thought they would have her as a regular. Anyway, I really only watch ABC and SBS for news.

I hear you about Sky and I can understand why. But really, she doesn't belong anywhere, not even in the bingo hall at the asylum for the criiminallly insane.

Public housing tenants caught out by Victoria's sudden COVID-19 lockdown of tower blocks

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-07/covid-19-lockdown-catches-tower-public-tenants-by-surprise/12...

from a lot of what im reading regarding this 'lockdown' of people in their own homes

the victorian govt has miss managed it big time

they hadnt planned for once we locked these poor sods in their buildings the logistics of taking care of them

even the basics of food seems to be a failure not to mention all the other daily requirements of average people.

some were short of foot on day 1,

how can this be?

because a lot of people these days dont cook, they eat takeaway all the time

if you looked in their fridge you might find beer and flavoured milk or soft drink, but not actual real food

look in the 'food' cupboards and see bugga all actual food

why would you, after all they get fed the story on tv maccas can feed you breakfast lunch and dinner 24 hrs a day!

and dont just say its poor that live like that

i bet there are plenty of upper crusts who 'eat out' all the time

lock them in the town houses and see how fast they say 'i have no food here'

the andrews govt made a snap decision to lockdown hundreds of families, now the hard part, taking actual care of them.
