For an international take on the VIC situation via Reuters

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/australia-s-second-largest-city-heads-back-into-coronavirus-loc...

We were so close to eradication  but maybe some sentiment out there uneasy us being out of step with the contagion in the northern hemisphere - seem in synch despite international closing of border + effective semi-lockdown: ie current typical status :  lockdown , restarting economy > spread > surge > but at least we are still effective in containment and our Government has acted decisively

Re: Coronavirus update

Come Rog I saw a old lady on the news looks like she cant do her own shopping and her family bought her food and were turned away, she said she is hungry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not every one lives like you, there are alot of old people in those flats and NO they are not all immigrants.

A lot of people do shop day by day, old people do not have the internet, some even dont know how to use a cell phone

Pension is fortnighty, what if it was just before pension due, yes your cuboard would be empty

Why do some have no empathy for others, it is a trait I hate but seems to be happening mre and more

Re: Coronavirus update

Well, my household being part of melbourne metropolis goes into another 6 week lockdown from tomorrow night.. we're OK with it because we need to get this virus under control .I just hope the supernarkets haven't been raided again

it looks like they've tried to pinpoint whether the virus was mainly in the northern and western suburbs, but in today's figures, new cases have  popped up nearly everywhere... so a lockdown there has to be

Family of 4 from Melb visted and stayed in Port Fairy for three days, now they have all tested positive to the virus, goodness who they have given it to during their stay.  Our area is virus free and we would like to keep it that way, so I pleased that Melb has  been shut down, we really need to get this horrible virus under control asap

Re: Coronavirus update

further to my previous post, the river crossing at Yelta (shown as Merbein crossing on the list of crossings), will only be open for emergency vehicles.

This means for trucks and other vehicles the only available crossing around Mildura will be the Chaffey Bridge at Mildura.

IMO it will be total chaos right along the border, espeially in some of the smaller towns, who need to cross over to do their grocery shopping etc

Public housing tenants caught out by Victoria's sudden COVID-19 lockdown of tower blocks

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-07/covid-19-lockdown-catches-tower-public-tenants-by-surprise/12...

from a lot of what im reading regarding this 'lockdown' of people in their own homes

the victorian govt has miss managed it big time

they hadnt planned for once we locked these poor sods in their buildings the logistics of taking care of them

even the basics of food seems to be a failure not to mention all the other daily requirements of average people.

some were short of foot on day 1,

how can this be?

because a lot of people these days dont cook, they eat takeaway all the time

if you looked in their fridge you might find beer and flavoured milk or soft drink, but not actual real food

look in the 'food' cupboards and see bugga all actual food

why would you, after all they get fed the story on tv maccas can feed you breakfast lunch and dinner 24 hrs a day!

and dont just say its poor that live like that

i bet there are plenty of upper crusts who 'eat out' all the time

lock them in the town houses and see how fast they say 'i have no food here'

the andrews govt made a snap decision to lockdown hundreds of families, now the hard part, taking actual care of them.

Another thing many people on welfare do is live day to day. They wait until the evening and see how much money they have spent on medications or petrol if they have gone somewhere that day or cigarettes and if there is any money left, they go to the shops and buy something to cook for dinner. If there's no money left, they either go without or just cook up 3 minute noodles.

Many certainly don't go out and do a large weekly shop as they can never be certain what other expenses they might incur as the week goes by.

The towns on the NSW side of the river here are pretty well serviced for things like grocery shopping. The area that is lacking is in healthcare.
