Re: Coronavirus update

A friend whose parents live in the USA, asked for special permission to travel there because her mother is seriously ill (not COVID related) and may not survive.  Her permission was declined, but they helpfully mentioned that she will get permission to go to the funeral  .......

In meanwhile the airlines are cancelling flights and keeping the money!

We might even be able to do that in normal English.

But it won't happen. All governments' priorities, post-COVID, will be to get that GDP kicking upwards. The easiest way to do that is to increase the number of consumers that the GDP is defined by.

Noting that the G in GDP means Gross. Not per head, nor taking environmental concerns into account.

There was a documented spike in GDP after the Newcastle earthquake. It didn't relate to new activity, just the replacement of existing assets that were no longer viable. But it kicked GDP along, without actually producing anything.

It cannot be a paywall.   I do not subscribe and I can access it?

Anyway it is about people buying expensive air tickets for $12 000 for family of 4, the airlines cancelling their flights, and telling them it will take 6 months to refund.

Poultry worker identified as one of Victoria's coronavirus victims

A 51-year-old man who worked at Turosi's Golden Farms Poultry plant near Geelong has been identified as one of Victoria's 228 coronavirus-related deaths, the company's chief executive said.

โ€œFrom Newcomb, Geelong, he had worked at Turosi for more than 15 years and was a valued member of the Geelong team,โ€ Phil Hand said.

Mr Hand said the company was told late on Sunday that the man had tested positive for COVID-19 and had died.

The DHHS lists 44 cases of coronavirus as being linked to the Golden Farms Poultry plant.

Mr Hand said the companyโ€™s sincere sympathy went to the manโ€™s family and friends and added it would provide what support it could.
