One night they chomped through about 15 baskets of impatiens.
Then onto the yummy roses, geraniums.
Now I've decided to set up an area of succulents in pots which I love and have read so many remedies for
spraying tham (the plants ) on the internet and don't know where to start.
I have bought two little flashing led lights in vivid green which I'm hoping will look like
evil eyes, lol.
Anybody had success with deterring them? I won't trap them and relocate as I know they die in a new area and I'm am actually fond of the \little critters. .

We have possums and raccoons here on Long Island too, but I've never heard any complaints about them. Maybe they do the same thing here? I've never had a garden. I plan on growing some vegetables this summer and will be interested to see what works.
So...when the OP finds success, please post it. Often I see OPs not return with the answer.
It's been getting warming here (60f today) and I've been seeing some wildlife in my yard at night. The area is somewhere in between city and suburban style. Even so...lots of wildlife. I could swear on my night vision camera... I saw I pig in my yard the other night, lol.
Something has been digging in my yard and it's highly illegal to shoot anything. Not that I could or would. More than likely I'd let them have the veggies and get mine from the store...pesticides and all!
Every morning Geese living in the field across the street watch me as I leave for work. I whistle at them, but they don't answer?

Someone (not me) decided they had had enough and poisoned them all.
Not only are possums a protected species here to poison them is vile and cruel.

I agree. I thought at the time that it would be pointless,
as another lot would soon take up residence.
Mind you, I am secretly grateful. They were slowly destroying
my house, because they lived in the roof,. If you blocked up
their entrance they were strong enough to rip up the tiles to
gain entry.
They never ate any of my garden - roses and vegies were
never touched. I don't know what they ate. But we do have
a large park across the road - maybe they ate there?

It seems different things work in different areas ,don't know why. I wil for sure post my progress, or otherwise, lol.
I like idea of a an owl there ..... particularly the hooting one, but as I'm in flats I can't have any noise. I'm waiting to see what sort of owl az has as it sounds good, otherwise I might get this one from the UK. I don't think a plain plastic one would be much good, as purple says.

Would netting of some sort placed over the plants overnight work?
I have a family of possums in my ceiling that will be given their eviction notice very soon. Noisy critters, they are. I have a nesting box for them so hopefully they will like their new residence. I am glad that they are protected species and hope that they remain so, I don't understand why people love in a bush/forest setting and expect the wildlife to bugger off. Poisoning is such a revolting thing to do.

I'm in suburban Melbourne, so not in a bush setting.
Might I also repeat - I did not poison them

Sorry Stawks. They were two individual statements that I probably should have separated. Neither were aimed at you, just general observations.

Try feeding them. Why not put out a dish of stuff that they will chomp on. I love sharing my yard with the local possums. You might run the risk of enticing more if you feed them. If you visit the local fruit shop you'll be able to buy stuff that is nearly on the turn and you'll get it a bit cheaper if you ask. Feed that to the possums. They'll love it.

We live in the bush/forest settings, we have a problem with them eating the roses, have tried the netting doesnt work, nothing works, so we just live with it.
I never mentioned poisoning them..........
